Wilderness runs the full range of motorhomes in our fleet. From the compact and economical Wave 2 to the big and bold Peak 4, we've got a vehicle for you. All our motorhomes run on diesel (which is 25% less expensive than petrol in NZ) so they're easy on your wallet. They are all kitted out for camping in the wilderness with full self-containment certification (a must for some areas), generous water storage, heating, and long life power systems.

We rented a two person motor home from their Christchurch branch for 17 days . We thoroughly loved the experience of exploring the South Island and freedom of camping at various camp grounds during that period. I don’t think we would have experienced that any other way . Overall experience dealing with Wilderness Motorhome been very positive, there were few minor glitches with our vehicle which were handled by the staff to our satisfaction. All employees are great but we had very good experience dealing with Josie , these folks are very professional and take customer care very seriously as per my personal experience. Thank you Wilderness Team
Rented RV in August from Wilderness Auckland and what an amazing trip we had up North. Sven went through everything in the RV in great detail. Top class RV with everything you could possibly want. We are looking forward to next year's adventure already. Thanks guys.
I've recently returned from my 5th Wilderness adventure in a Compact for 2 motorhome and my maps are out planning the next trip. As a solo traveller this sized van is ideal. It's cosy, comfortable, convenient and fun to drive. How awesome it is to wake up in a freedom or DOC campsite , look out of the window right by your comfy bed and see a wonderful view. Sometimes I don't want to do more than sip my coffee and gaze at the scenery. Reliable and well set up, Wilderness motorhomes are lovely and warm even on frosty nights and particularly in the bathroom. When at a campground I often prefer the van's tiny shower to the camp one! Life is simple when you're on the road with everything you need at your fingertips. Being a 'hermit crab' has definite advantages! I can't wait for my next adventure. Thank you Wilderness for your welcomes, helpfulness and high standard of vehicle maintenance.
Had a little bit of delay during pick up at Auckland as I couldn’t get through their hotline- didn’t know which bus bay to wait for their shuttle bus to their office- instructions could be clearer on their website. Besides that small hiccup, the Motorhome was really awesome. We got a new car and the interior was beautiful and modern. Indicators like the fresh / gray water level, electric level were easy to access and read. Heating system was good at keeping us warm although the bedroom’s heating didn’t seem to be as warm as the one in the living area. Kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking. The car engine was powerful enough to get through the NZ terrain, especially during steep climbs. Drop off was easy & fuss free. But please remember to get the full coverage of insurance. Our car got scratched and we didn’t even notice until handover day at their Christchurch office. The lady who handled the matter was very nice about it and because we got the full coverage, no excess was needed. Will definitely recommend and come back to using Wilderness on our next trip back in NZ.
The team in Christchurch were lovely and accommodating. We had a fantastic family holiday and the camper was perfect for our family. We are hooked and can’t wait to book again. And to the old gentleman who dropped us to the airport he is a legend for bringing us our laptop which I had left in the camper. Thank you so much to you all!!
The Wilderness Motorhomes team is the best. All so accommodating and understanding in walking us through all the functions of the camper van we were renting. We are first time camper van renters so we had so many questions. The Wilderness team at Auckland were so patient with us. Thank you!!
Our booking was put on hold due to Covid, and the good folk at Wilderness Motorhomes gave us ample time to rescheduled. Come the day we set off it was indeed the start of an adventure, hot on our tail was cyclone Fili, so having looked at the rain radar we opted for the East coast , where we found winds, but not too much rain, the motorhome was a joy to drive and very comfortable of an evening. Cooking in the motorhome was a breeze , ample gas to power the fridge, the gas cooker, water heating and the central heating of a morning. We opted to use un powered camp sites, as they were in general , more picturesque, and often with just two or three other motor homes. Our travels lasted 8 nights, and 9 days, and we covered over 3,000 km, during that time we shopped only once to re stock out meat and veg. The fridge held a lot , with a little thought there was room for two bottles of wine, and three bottles of beer ,and three bottles of water which we refilled at the start of each day. Our choice of roads lead us to places we had not heard of, and scenery not seen by many, such as baby wild pigs running on the side of the road, old homes void of people, but full of memories , streams, where the fish had not been caught. We had not planed as to where we wanted to go, but we did drive to avoid the tail of the storm, we encounter fallen trees, so had to back track, washed out roads, and small slips..... but we enjoyed it all. So would we do this again!!!!!! YES, and in the Winter, knowing just how well fitted out the Motorhome is
Loved our first motorhome experience. Easy to drive and fully equipped so we didn't have to worry with anything during the trip.
My sister and I hired the twin motorhome. It was totally magic! Customer service was outstanding. The van was easy to drive, beds permanently in place and so cozy, came with all we needed including picnic table and chairs. Easy to keep heated. Just Loved it!
It made coming home so easy and the Wilderness team approach was like being looked after by family. The vehicle pick up was more than excellent and the return was simple and hassle free. I cannot highlight enough the great family approach from the whole team, which along with the outstanding condition, comfort and power of the motor home made this visit one that we will always remember, until we return home and travel with the Wilderness team again! Thank Wilderness you are the best!
