Simply a MUST SEE museum. I always take my overseas visitors there and they are in awe just like I was. Amazing Kauri Gum displays and life-size saw machines and rooms give an impressive realistic view on what it was in days gone by.
Really enjoyed the place it is really a must see experience. Even if you have seen it in the past, go again. The cafe has awesome toasted sandwiches as well.

What an awesome place to visit. A mix of heavy machinery. Some working. Delicate Kauri and really realistic historical family sets. A neat cafe across the road with staff who actually care. Visit. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing place, interactive, lots to see and do great for all ages and people working there are very knowledgeable. Definately need a whole day to get around everything, just a couple of photos which doesn't do the place justice
Great museum where you can easily spend a couple of hours. All about the kauri trees and the timber equipment and way of living. Highly recommended
An absolutely worthwhile museum designed with love almost a compulsory visit for all New Zealand holidaymakers. Very informative and impressive Would go there again at any time Gerburg
Fascinating museum. It doesn't look too big from the outside, but once you are inside you will easily spend hours going through the various exhibits. At 60 years old, the museum shows its age a little: some of the exhibits haven't been updated in a while. Overall there's a bit too much focus on settlers' logging history rather than focusing on the Kauri tree after which the museum is named. Some more attention to the Maori perspectives would help. If you can take an introductory tour, the experience is well worth it. Otherwise go anyway!
Must Do. $25 Gets you a 2 day visitors pass. So much to see & do, I would visit over 2 days. Incredible place, too much to take in over 1st visit, need to spend 2days. 3 good Campgrounds close by. My pick would be Pahi.
Well set up. Very informative. Really enjoyed it
