White Elephant Backpackers Motueka

We had an exquisite night in our secluded cabin which was clean, well maintained with a complete bathroom shower and toilet. Despite being also a backpacker, the place was calm and the provides facilities kitchen, living room, etc. were well kept and well furnished. The cabins themselves are surrounded by a wonderful garden with figs, citrus, roses, friendly cats which just provided perfect company for a beer on the porch. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful spot. Everything about this place is welcoming. You pull into a beautiful front garden, with a lovely view of the building and immediately feel relaxed and ready to chill. For the size of the place it is very easy to navigate with a large kitchen, nice chill out room, and fantastic garden. Wish we had stayed longer.Rooms: 5/5

This hostel has all the potential to become one of the best hostels in New Zealand in the next few years! Recently taken over by a lovely family, you are greeted by the lady of the house, her young child and a cuddly cat. The house itself is a well-maintained, 118-year-old heritage listed, colonial mansion with a large front courtyard. The even bigger backyard is perfect for sunbathing or a nice bbq. The cozy living room has a piano, a pool table and enough entertainment equipment for a few convivial evenings. Ideal for meeting people on your way to the Abel Tasman National Park.

Motueka's best kept secret is the White Elephant Accommodation! Lauren is an amazing host with the most upbeat welcoming personality. She owns and operates this place with much pride and you can see the love that's been poured into making sure this place feels like a home away from home for travellers. Dorms and private cabins are offered here. A very spacious communal kitchen with seating options inside or outside in the beautiful garden. Meet the cats and admire all the different types of fruit trees and flowers. I wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you again for everything Lauren! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, beautiful house with gorgeous gardens , lots of off-street parking available. Clean facilities and plenty of room to sit outside in the gardens. Will definitely stay again .Rooms: 5/5

Truly a remarkable gem to find in the Tasman region. A historical manor located in a quite area of motueka, while still being within walking distance to all shops and supermarkets, the White Elephant is the number one place to stay for those looking for a low cost solution and a very comfortable and homely environment to relax in. The new owner is extremely friendly, along with her husband and adorable little boy, making any guests feel welcome during their stay. The grounds are huge, many beautiful trees and areas to relax in, and overall it feels like a nice country house environment and not a commercial hostel. There are a few long term guests staying, who are all extremely friendly and assisting the new owners with casual and non disruptive renovations, to improve the site. If you are passing through motueka, this is the place to stay 100% Oh and there's a cute but somewhat skittish little cat Noteworthy details: The WiFi is fast and covers all areas
