Mission
To support and promote human rights in West Papua, including the right to self-determination.
Aims
• To raise public awareness in New Zealand about human rights violations and critical social and environmental issues in West Papua as well as awareness about NZ’s role.
•To facilitate action, which may be taken by groups and individuals, to further raise awareness and support human rights in West Papua.
• To maintain a watching brief on NZ Government policy and to lobby the NZ government to develop policy and implementation which upholds the human rights of the Melanesian West Papuans.
• To develop solidarity links with groups in Indonesia and internationally who are working for human rights and democracy.
We believe that
• every human being has the right to self-determination under international law
• increased awareness of the human rights situation in West Papua is critical in generating pressure to bring about a change in our government’s policy
• our government should adhere to international law and reflect our societies’ values
• as a solidarity organisation, our specific campaigns should be influenced by the kinds of campaigns and priorities taken by West Papuans.
