Just love taking the family for visits here, not only have you got the museum here, with all local history and memorabilia, but also the beautiful Kauri Park bush walk, where all the boardwalks have been meticulously upgraded to make for an enjoyable walk. One of the volunteers said, it’s possible to spot Ruru Moreporks in the trees if you’re lucky. Heaps of Tui’s and fantails. Beautiful old Kauri and other native trees, with dates of age on plaques. Definitely our happy place
Enjoyed this little museum so much. The exhibits are set out and displayed brilliantly. The information was excellent. Loved the balance of the museum which included everyday aspects of New Zealand history and culture, not just limited to certain things. Also the local past Kauri industry was covered and explained well. Very nostalgic looking at some of the olden day items.
I attended with my 3 children recently, staff were very friendly and helpful, displays were great with some hands-on activities for the kids. Kauri walk really beautiful. Highly recommend!
The Warkworth & District Museum constantly develops and changes displays that give an insight into the lives and pursuits of New Zealand's pioneering families nnOn the first floor they have recreated rooms from the 1920s such as a corner store kitchen bedroom, wash house, and post office nnMy mum's first job was working it the post office telephone exchange I can't believe they used to manually connect people with wires and you had to book a line nnThe ground floor tells the story of the kauri tree and the people who developed industries to harvest the rich resources of our ancient kauri forest These are lovely displays of local history and is beautifully presented nnThe ladies at reception were just lovely nnIt is situated next to the magnificent Parry Kauri Park Unfortunately I was just feeling too hot and bothered to explore their many tracks and walkways. But it's a good excuse to come back on another day to experience the native bush and kauri tree grove
