Rebuilding schools, homes and communities in the Philippines.
Transform A Community was founded by Danny and Rowena Steel. After the death of Danny's first wife in a tragic car crash, Danny met Rowena and in time they married.
After many trips to the Philippines they saw the many needs and hopelessness of the Rural Community and Rural Schools.
The Steels embarked on a long term journey to help a small community of about two and a half thousand people made up of many families and elderly people.
Since then, Transform A Community have started working on the school as to bring a better level of education to the children, thus giving them a better chance of employment.
We are bringing fresh clean water to the school and community which will dramatically increase the health of the children and community.
We are also looking at improving some of the housing in the community.
Plus, we are looking at ways to bring employment to the community.
In early 2015 we took the first steps towards bringing community transformation. We identified a community we could help, and started work as soon as we could!
An elementary school (in the Philippines - in Region 7) needed some love and we were more than happy to help.
At the time it had 330 students & 6 teachers no water, working toilets or power to most of the school, no teacher's offices or resources, no computers or multimedia, no sporting equipment, no playground and no flat ground to play sport. On top of all this, some classrooms had major damage and some of the kids were malnourished.
After just a few weeks we had completely renovated one classroom as well as demolishing and rebuilding a second classroom, turning it into a teachers and resource office - with a toilet and shower!
We hired many local tradesmen for the building work and a seamstress for brand new school uniforms. This brought revenue into the community and gave hope into the families of the workers.
The school now also has a classroom full of computers and a projector, so the children can learn computer skills.
A project for a new well was started too.
The community became more excited over the weeks - hope for a better future had returned.
