Amazing PYO cherries Got some eggs from their little market shelves as well! Staff very friendly, had awesome chats with the owner there about cherry trees! Only sad thing is seeing tourists not respecting the rules, breaking brunches, eating while picking and not sharing the ladders provided for everyone
Tried this place for the second time. Berries were yum but there were no boysenberries to pick. We have to buy minimum of $25. The owner was friendly. There are picnic benches in the garden if anyone wants to spend some more time there. No mobility access but my mom could go on her wheel chair there.
First time for Cherry picking, was quiet excited. But didnt feel.very welcoming a the orchard. The staff is not friendly at all. Nothing wrong to tell people the orchard ' s rule. However, we wasn't been told " there was 1 hour picking only " when we were buying the tickets. Which already $12 per person , quiet pricy,. Can't eat while you are picking , and you must pay for at least 1 Kg Upfront. . Then when customers were picking , staff are keep hopping around the people , saying " don't break the leave / have to have the buscket with you all time / don't push one that tree / dont eat inside Ethernet orchard … the worse was, they saw some broken leave near you, then they will told you off about breaking the leave , which we were not even stood in where the broken leave were. They made us feel they just wanted your money, but don't get any cherries. In fact , there are not many big cherries already , only the small one . Plus not like they give you lots ladder to use. And the ladder are very heavy to move around. Understand you set rule to protect the trees/ fruits , and also the need of emphasise rules with the people who don't follow rules. But not to everyone or anyone actually following the rules. Very disappointed with this experience , it put me off visiting them/ recommend them to anyone. Christchurch is such lovely city, shame on this experience.
Some reviewers are saying that the staff are a little grumpy. What they don't understand is that this is IRL orcharding and when the raspberries aren't ripening because of the sporadic sunshine, stress levels can just get sky high. On top of that, the payWave people keep sending out receipt paper rolls that don't even fit into the pay wave machine. This happened when I was there but no worries. Just be patient and enjoy the cherries, the staff are just true blue kiwi orchardists trying to earn a living.
Owner lied to a customer over the phone, He said cherry is available over the phone even though board was up for no cherries. So he wants to sell other fruits but people travel from far to pick cherries. So dont believe what staff says over the phone..
Lovely experience and tasty fruits. Pls note that Children 7 yrs under are not allowed in the cherry picking area. They allowed in the raspberry section though.
We had good cherries, but the staff could’ve been more cheery
Yummy PYO boysenberries and plums. Owner was also very kind. As tourists from Australia we had a great time. Very pleased with everything. Absolutely delicious fruit.
Went to get PYO fruit. They only had raspberries and it was $25 per kg. PYO is normally good value. Didn't find it here.
Last year was good experience for me, and this year better than last year! Good quality, big cherry
