About

Dual heritage - Shared future. Commemorating the first encounters between Captain Cook and Maori at Meretoto/Ship Cove in Tōtaranui/Queen Charlotte Sound.

Story

Totaranui 250 is a community commemoration of the first encounters between Maori and Europeans and the common threads between them - voyaging, discovery and connection to nature.

In January 2020 it will be 250 years since Captain James Cook sailed the Endeavour into Meretoto/Ship Cove in Totaranui/Queen Charlotte Sound. Join us as we explore the stories of the beginning of our nation Aotearoa New Zealand.

We have been staying at Waterlea racecourse in our motorhome, and although this isn’t our first visit to your city, we’ve had a better look around, and would like to say that the public areas of the city are superb. A credit to the Council.
Thinking of shopping in Blenheim be carful I would suggest shopping elsewhere as it appears the council is short on funds and employing over zealous parking officials to make up the shortfall, I'd recommend Christchurch rather than heading north On a shopping trip from Kaikoura I received a ticket for parking across a marking indicating the limit of a parking space. I usually drive a 2 door Rav4 but on this day a Ranger which is quite a bit longer, so more than likely my mistake the wife said I was over the line a little so all good. When the reminder arrived I had two tickets ......? One as above for the parking offense and the other being parked in an area marked by a broken yellow line which would be pretty obvious considering I parked across a marking indicating the limit of a parking space. I only had the $40 ticket under the wiper never received the other until the reminder arrived $60 + court costs of $40 so all up 2 tickets for the same offense and $140 worth of fines from consecutive ticket numbers and written 2 minutes apart by the same 097 officer When I parked there was no one in the 3 or 4 parking spaces in front of me and no one behind which stands to reason yellow line, so I had inconvenienced no one, It was the same when I returned to the vehicle. I hope officer 097 gets the promotion he or she is looking for which I assume must be based around how many tickets one can write in a shift and perhaps some gold star epaulets for the uniform which provides them with the power trip ............. This area is shocking with curb side recycling i saw my daughter bin emptied then a bag of recycling but back into her bin all we can think of was it was to full as i left her house i watched the bin men take others down the same street we checked her recycling and all were recyclable so no more recycling from her house in future and as for my small street dont put ya bin out if its windy cause they dont pick up a thing so i dont recycle anymore either
Really horrible part of the South Island. Blenheim is a place I will never stop at in the future really dark creepy vibe in this town I feel sorry for the people that live here.
Helpful and polite public face to a busy council that has little debt and allows critical access to property records for free. Thanks
Always helpful, lovely staffs
