Totara Hospice South Auckland

About

Provide hospice palliative care services to patients with life limiting illnesses and their families, for the communities of South & South East Auckland.

Story

Totara Hospice South Auckland provides specialist palliative care services to the entire South and South-East Auckland area, our community of 450,000+ people is one of NZ’s largest. We support patients and their families living with life limiting illnesses. All of our services are provided free of charge to any person regardless of age, ethnicity, illness or need. 1/3 of our patient caseload is under 60, we have an average of 400-600 patients monthly, and our community nurses make around 10,000 home visits every year. Totara Hospice is only 59% funded by the government, we must raise the balance of $3m through fundraising. Every dollar you donate to Totara Hospice gives someone with a terminal illness in your neighbourhood the strength, support and opportunity to make the most of every day they have. Our organisation is highly reputed and at one point or another, most individuals will have contact with Hospice directly or in-directly.

From the moment my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer Totara Hospice was involved, The Nurses Sophia and Hannah who had so much empathy and care towards my mother Diana and especially myself. They had supported me through the whole process. I am forever grateful to Hospice and the team. Mum sadly passed last week, however she was so well taken care right to the end. She is now free. From the bottom of my Thank you!
You guys took such good care of my father and my family thank you so much for everything forever grateful for the loving and caring staff
Very caring community. Dr, nurse, volunteers... everyone trying their best to support the patients and their families. It's a place you see the beauty of humanity and love grows
on the eve on my dads anniversary. Hospice were my angels on the last night of dads passing..the ambulance officers and hospice didn't think via phone call that dad was on his very last legs..it took me telling them I was scared..they took us straight away in at Manukau hospice that early night..thank God one look at dad and doc humbly told me dad would pass by morning... ..my mum was in rest home with alzimers and dementia..hospice nurses did everything possible to make me be comfortable and dad to be settled and pain free to pass in honor and dignity..it is now one year to the night I want to give totara hospice the highest grading as a review for the most amazing way they cared for dads last hours and me as his daughter to cope with his final hours in peace. I think of u all so highly tonight as it is this time last year you surely were my and it is I want to say..I hope when u am older and grayer you will be there for me too...I also lost mum 5 months after dad...even though mum didn't go hospice you still keep the door open to me grief counseling If I needed it. Love uz arohanui
What a fabulous day I had on the Shop Crawl. Thanks to Mel and her great team for organising such a fantastic & fun event. You girls rock. I can't wait for next year's one.I met some lovely ladies and found some amazing treasures. Cheers from Dinner Dixon.
My Daughter was gently cared for there, until her passing.5star definately. Also listened to my prattle with patience, and her mountain of visitors. It was my first experience of death, and it was my baby Daughter Caron Lee Tau Thankyou so much. P.Brown
I have not visited this place or met any of the staff/doctors, however I have found out they have provided counseling for my sister who's fighting brain tumor and helping my niece to become her caregiver. It is because of this I have decided to become a life time supporter and joined the "Stand By Me" club. I’m eternally grateful to you all.
Good food and lovely people
Translated by Google Dr. James did his best to show my father the goodness and love of humanity in the last moments of his life. I know this is a great relief for a father who has gone through the changing times. Thank you. Thanks to nurse Joann from the east team, who always listened to our concerns and concerns patiently and carefully. Original Jameseast teamJoann
