Story

+ HAVE WE MET BEFORE?

First established in 1996, we’ve a new home after a fire from a neighbouring business burnt our iconic bar to the ground in 2013 . The World Bar of today is very different to the notoriously naughty World Bar of yesteryear though. It still has the energy and air of mischief of the original bar but this old dog learnt some new tricks and is now the ultimate spot for après, food, teapot cocktails, craft beer (11 on tap alone) and all sorts of quirky events and night time shindiggery.

The spot was designed ourselves with no designers or artists involved and we're proud that everything was sketched, drawn, designed and thought of by these big old noggins of ours. It feels real and is true to what we felt this place was and what Queenstown needed. So hopefully you'll enjoy the love and care that has gone into creating this place. It wasn't easy, a little stressful at times and it certainly was fun in hindsight!

We've already hosted some incredible adventure film movie premieres, some banging parties with notorious DJ's, live music both local and guest affiliated, pumped out burgers to the masses and relaunched our famous teapot cocktails. So whatever time you visit, we're sure to have something special waiting for you. We're a progressive bunch who like to keep it interesting and we're not happy to settle for mediocre. So come get a proper burger, a real pint or check out some interesting local talent.

The World Bar is back and it’s a home for many.

Now situated on a different site, No.12 Church Street, we’ve a spot that has a famous warm and cosy beer garden, a giant open roaring fire and is a well loved hangout spot for locals, travellers and friends alike.

"This ecclectic log cabin serves as Queenstown's party spot, teapot cocktails, heated beer garden, burger heaven, craft beer queenstown, apre ski bar, queenstown happy hour, best burgers queenstown, live dj's queenstown, dancing queenstown, best cocktails queenstown, video premiers and home of #thegreatoutdoors."

We made a reservation here based on some veg items we wanted off of the menu.. so we were a little disappointed that they were only offering their burger menu when we arrived I hope they consider updating their website. We stayed for a drink and an app veg poutine just to be polite before heading elsewhere, and they were okay.
Being a Korean-American, I had to try their version of Korean Fried Chicken. They were right balance of sweetness and savory, just the way "yangyum" Chicken should be. Had a great happy hour and staff was great.
Was trying to find a plant based friendly option in Queenstown. Saw the menu outside for World bar and was glad I did. Never would have expected so many awesome vegan options. I loved the poutine and my friend loved the tacos. So unexpectedly good, a happy find. Nice Canadian chap served us too.
The food here was comforting and delicious. One of the staff even remembered my fiancée and I, as we had been there a few times prior, and gave us a very warm welcome. Drinks and food came out fast and the cast iron nachos we're a staple on our orders since day 1. I only wish we could take them back home to Australia with us.
Great spot to get together with family and friends. Has a fun atmosphere, with a great range of drinks for all tastes whether alcoholic or non alcoholic. If you looking for teapot cocktails this is the place to be. Great range of foods available. Staff friendly and helpfulFood: 5/5
Very nice burgers, fries could be better.. Friendly staff, nice place.Food: 4/5
One of the best gluten free buns I’ve had. Also highly recommend the KFC chicken burger if you don’t have celiac, if was incredible. Beef burger and fries just ok.
The food was really good and came out fast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a nice table tucked away so we could chat to friends and the kids could chill out in the corner of the booth. Kid-friendliness: The kids menu is good for picky eaters and came out fast so they didn't get bored.
Great spot to have a few beers. Walked straight in after doing Ben Lemond hike. Just what we needed with good beers, food and music! Shout out to Amanda at the bar for the quality service.
Unfortunately a super underwhelming experience tonight. We had to go up to the counter to ask a server to come and take our order. Then sadly the food wasn’t hot at all. Nachos that are supposedly cooked in cast iron pan, were barely luke warm, and so was the pan they came in. The vegan burgers and poutine were close to cold and flavours lacking compared to previous times we have been here. A lot of the chips were burnt too, although they were also cold when they arrived at the table. Felt like everything had sat around for a long time before they came, and food did take half an hour which isn’t terrible but still not great. We didn’t get given any napkins or cutlery either until we asked which is really poor and a teapot cocktail came out with no cup to pour it into and the staff suggested we just drink it out of the spout which although is a funny suggestion, not something that most people actually want to do. The atmosphere of the place is fun and pumping, staff are very friendly but in terms of the actual service we received, it wasn’t good at all. For nearly $30 per meal + drinks, the standard was not good enough and as Queenstown locals were were extremely disappointed. We also had somebody at our table with severe allergies and the staff weren’t very reassuring about making sure that what was served didn’t have any of the specified allergy ingredients in it so that’s something to be aware of if you also have allergies.
