1876 Bar and Restaurant is a distinctive & much valued landmark of Queenstown.The old stone courthouse building was erected between November 1875 and September 1876. The Old Courthouse is one of the few structures that survive from Queenstown’s early gold mining days.
Now over 130 years on 1876 offers an upmarket menu, relaxed atmosphere, great service & friendly staff. With the option of indoor and outdoor dining 1876 is definitely the place to be. Really nice nz beer and 15 dollars special food. We asked the bartender about the local beer recommended. He has a super friendly personality and the recommendation is also very suitable for me and my partner. This is really the most worthwhile bar in Queenstown.Food: 5/5
We're still getting used to the very odd dining setup in NZ. There is no table service anywhere we've been, other than a very high-end restaurant. Other than that inconvenience, the bartender was really friendly, as were the runners. If you're looking for vegan and vegetarian options, there are more here than most places. Drinks were okay, happy hour prices are good. Nice outside patio. The historic building is fantastic!
Very friendly and attentive staff, fast service, and tasty food. Reasonably priced drinks. My steak was great with perhaps the chrispiest fries I've ever had. My partners chicken burder tasted great but was a bit dry, definitely needed more sause! Would visit again
Been a local in QT for 3 years. Have gone to 1876 many times over this period of time living down here. Usually get the rump steak.. last few times has been poorly cooked but today was bad. Cold steak. Could barely chew it.. 2 hours later vomiting! only had a few bites ended up returning it anyways & i was offered from them to remake it but was low on time and wasn’t too keen on it being remade. Steak is easy to make, you’d think it be achievable. Did get the refund and Marco is one of the best staff I’ve ever come across! Apart from that, usually good food and good atmosphere.
We enjoyed a lovely relaxing lunch next to the fire in this pleasant restaurant in a beautiful historic building. Our server/host Katie was wonderful…friendly, helpful and provided us with tips to make our stay in the area more rewarding. Vegetarian options: Buddha bowl, fajitas and others. Buddha bowl with falafel was very tasty.
Our favourite pub in Queenstown! Cheap pints, great food and awesome atmosphere! The live music is always so fun and the staff are so friendly. We’ve spent probably 50% of our time here since arriving in Queenstown. Special shoutout to Lottie, she always makes our experience at 1876 ten times better!! See you soooooon Food: 5/5
Best place to grab a reasonable priced drink ! Wish we found it sooner. We definitely will be back. Enjoyed the live music & all the fairy lights outside, which gave it a lovely ambiance along with the outdoor heatersFood: 4/5

This is based on my meal and experience. We had an early dinner here - cute place and fast service. I ordered a special rump steak dinner with fries. The steak was tough and hard to cut/chew. The peppercorn sauce added very little flavor. All in all very unsatisfying meal good price though. My dinner partner had buttermilk chicken tenders with spicy aioli that was very good pub food. We may give it another go but stick with bar food next time.
