Free to visit. It is an excellent place for lord of the ring fan to see some stuff from the movie. However, the museum zone is exceptionally tiny. You can spend just 10-15 min for looking around.
If you are a fan of movies like Avatar, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit etc then the tour is a must for you. If you are curious about movies and special effects then this is very educational & interesting. 90 minutes of gripping info. Book in advance online and avoid the queues.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
The Weta Cave is a must-see in Wellington if you appreciate crafts and design work - and especially so if you are a fan of Weta's movies the Tolkien ones in particular. Entry to the cave itself is free, but guided tours are paid and should be booked in advance. Even if you cannot secure tickets, head to the cave to see the props and costumes on display - they are truly magnificent. If you can go on a tour - you won't regret it!
Loved the experience and their creations. I'd highly recommend this tour. Look forward to coming back again and doing the full tour. Bring good walking shoes
Love it. Spend money & time there, few times now. Disable parking you have to be quick. Easy wheelchair and walker entrance and getting & around. Lovely staff especially Mark.
A great experience through the workshop and then onto the Thunderbirds studio set. Our guide, Dan, was fantastic in bringing the props on display to life. As well as explaining processes from concept to production of movie props.
We got the tour through the workshop. Fantastic experience! They had a lot of the original weapons and other costumes that they used for different films. We got a tour through the set of the new show, Thunderbirds Are Go, too. They also have a great gift shop, but everything was highly expensive. The staff were great, especially our tour guide, Kate!
Lovely experience! Glad that I’ve booked a tour last night. It was quite amazing to see what happens in the backgrounds for all those movies!
The Weta Workshop experience actually consists of two guided tours combined together. Each 45 min. The Wētā Cave Workshop Tour shows production artists of movies mainly from LOTR. Some live size and bigger than life size models, swords as well as a "workshop" where you can touch the stuff inside. The Dr Tin Foil demonstration was entertaining and informative. The Miniatures Stage Tour: Thunderbirds are Go! that continues from the first tour requires a 5 min walk along the street. There are traffic and its outdoor so be prepared for Wellington weather. The miniature tour showcast the model sets used in Thunderbirds. Some area allows you to take photos. The ticket usually sold out and hence buying online in advance is recommended. You are also allow to browse around the front building or free. Inside there is a mini museum, two rooms with LOTR artifacts and a shop. No parking except off street. Expect to park 5-10 min away especially during peak seasons. A must visit for the movie fans.
Once in a lifetime experience if you are a Hobbit / LOR fan ! The gift shop people are extremely friendly , knowledgeable and go out of the way to help you get what you want . A huge THANK YOU to Dan - he made our day !Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
