The Lawrenson Group's next suburban bar and restaurant opening in 2017 in the new Parkwood Development in southern Rototuna.
The now quiet suburbs of Rototuna have a colourful history, with plenty of interesting characters making this area their home over the years. Few of those characters were quite as flamboyant as the patriarch of one well known farming family of the 1920s and his beloved game birds.
While his poultry won plenty of blue ribbons in the local shows, and he even donated mallard ducks to beautify lake Rototuna, it was his racing pigeons that were his real pride and joy.
Much to his distress, his beloved pigeons began disappearing during their races, never to be seen again. Locals tell us that a cheeky neighbour, with a taste for pigeon pie, was stealing the farmer's birds and serving them up for dinner.
Now while it may seem that many of those racing pigeons met with a tragic fate, we’d like to think that more than a few of them took the chance to make a break for freedom.
The next time you’re feeling a bit caged up, why not follow the example of those adventurous birds, make your break for freedom and join us at the Wayward Pigeon.
