Sawmill is an independent, New Zealand owned brewery run by a small and talented team.

Story

The Brewery was established in 2004 on the site of what was once the Leigh Sawmill, a timber mill operating since the 1860’s. Our brewing is underpinned by this heritage of craftsmanship and tenacity.

We appreciate our place. This raw landscape has a bearing on everything we do and people here are resourceful, creative and hardworking.

Our brewery, while beautiful, is bursting at the seams so we are working on new premises. It means a great deal to us to be able to open our doors and create a place for conversation, community, food and drink. Keep in touch.

Our brewing is underpinned by this heritage of craftsmanship and tenacity.In July 2016 we opened the doors to the Smoko Room, a place in the brewery to visit for generous hospitality, food with gumption, 14 beers on tap and a drinks list that showcases organic wines and the best New Zealand producers. We also offer our full range of beer to takeaway as well as flagon fills."

Lovely setting and a must visit for Omaha or Matakana visitors. Beer is delicious and tasting platters etc make it good plus the off license. Staff were excellent and and attentive. Food was delicious but found it to be super pricey and slightly limited. Almost trying to be a 5 star restaurant when it's not, its a brewery! Only reason for not being 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit though!
Busy atmosphere but we managed to get a seat outside. Lots of choice with the beer and the food was gorgeous. Recommend spending a summer's afternoon chilling outside.
I had the privilege of coming here with a group and hearing about the amazing sustainable business practices they put in place. If that's not enough the food and the beet was amazing and the staff totally top notch. Best pub I've been to in ages.
Excellent visit in Matakana! Authentic craft beer operation pouring some awesome flavours and great quality brew. Bare beer and Rasberry Sour were also surprisingly bright and light! Really nice food on offer at the Smoko room- a cut above the regular stuff. Found a sunny spot and settled in for the arvo. Do it!
The beer was fantastic! There are 2 of them became the most impressive beer for me in Auckland. However not much selections on the menu interested. Definitely will back again
Dropped in for a beer and a snack and strongly recommend. Had the pate and a tasting paddle. Staff were great, efficient and friendly even though most of them looked like school kids. Great that this place keep going without the usual foreign staff.
The beer selection is top notch. The staff are very informed and able to assist you with your beer choices, to make it a truly enjoyable experience. The place has a rustic charm, and a lovely outside area with great views. It's the perfect place to kick back with some friends for the afternoon. Although they have a nice enough menu, I was very disappointed about the portion size especially considering the cost, and lack of food that go with beer, e.g. burgers, steak, pizza, nachos, etc.
Great space and prompt service but a little expensive for what you get... Beers were good though and I guess that's what matters most.

Great choice of beers and mouth watering shared plates! It was very busy however the staff were professional and our food was served without delay. It was our second visit and will be back.
