The Northerner, Kaitaia

Getting told visiting hours are over as I come in to pick whanau up to go do shopping, 6 or 7ish pm still bloody daylight giiirl what terrestrial you drop out of.. Serufina is lovely well iv had no issues it's just the night watch crew ha ha ha always reminding me it's late and I need to go but can't tell little theiving fingers that came and stole our kids scooters and bike to come bk later when it's not daylight, koreeeetux Rooms: Cringeee Safety: It ain't safe

You would have a better stay in jail than in this motel. All the taps leak, serious flooding in the rotten carpet. You aren't allowed any visitors and you are completely locked out of the building after dark. It is extremely expensive and I'm still waiting for my bond back from a year ago. There is no pool or gym as advertised and the roof leaks. The laundry machine takes your coins, but doesn't work and nobody seems to care that the building is falling down. With all that money they get from renting out rooms, you'd think they would put a little bit of effort into maintenance. I've given one star for the security staff, otherwise it would be a zero star review. This place should be shut down immediately!

Traveling around NZ from Australia, stopped in late notice right before closing and we were offered a family suite 2 bedrooms 4 adults and a baby. Great friendly service, felt like a home stay! Beds were super comfy and rooms spacious and warm. We loved staying here! Very affordable budget price!

The Northerner is old and tired. If you're looking for flash, look elsewhere. We were happy with our stay. Checkin was easy and staff were happy and helpful. Room was clean and bedding was good. Room feels like the 70's. We stayed on a Saturday night and had no issues with any noise. Aircon in our room worked well. Cheap and suitable for a night's rest. Excellent pressure and temp in the shower. Bed was very soft.

This Hotel is Highly Recommended it has lovely Hosts A+ very nice ladies. The Rooms are lovely and spacious, clean and tidy with a Retro feel with lots of wood and a relaxing atmosphere, I think it has two spa's? had to rush off didn't get the pleasure. Used to be the largest Motel in the Southern hemisphere. Huge corridors, a bit outdated rooms, but still comfortable. Good service.

Really surprised this dated, paper-thin-walled hotel was such a cosy place to stay. For $89 a night for a standard room you can't expect much but the room was really clean and tidy, the staff were attentive and helpful. We stayed for two days and we're off early both days so didn't get to try the food. Wife and I slept quite well and the place was rather quiet all around. Its such a big establishment for the size of the town so I think its had its heyday. It feels like a bit of a step back in time but its charming nonetheless. The hallway carpets are a dream for bare feet. There's a fair amount of history in this place. If you're looking for a place to crash in Kaitaia, this is it.

Stayed here recently with my adult daughter and her 3yr old toddler. It was a Tuesday night. Receptionist was very welcoming. Decor has a retro theme. However the next morning I turned on the shower to find there was no hot water. Rang reception who came and told us that it could be that the hot water usage was exceeded by other motel guests. So we had to use the shower in a different room. REALLY? I wonder if the same thing would have happened again if we stayed one more day.

Carolyn the innkeeper is so incredibly friendly and helpful! Really appreciated all her help. Rooms are clean but dated and didn’t have finishing touches one would expect for the price - $120.

The hotel manager and staffs were really slack. Rooms were not vacuumed properly you could still see spider webs. Very very old hotel,rooms smelt like is hasn't been used for ages. No breakfast,spa as per the booking we did.Rooms: 1/5
