Sometimes it’s the smallest towns that produce the best places to eat and drink and the greedy cow packs an awesome small town punch. This place is popular and you can expect it to be busy when you visit. Even with the large throws of people to satisfy we found the service friendly and efficient. The coffee here is amazing and they do all your favourites in a variety of sizes. Take out or stay and enjoy a cup inside or alfresco on one of the outdoor tables. The food is great and the serving sizes present great value for your dollar. It’s also great to see a cafe doing breakfast a little different. I tried the Beef Hotpot and it’s a great twist on the hum drum eggs and bacon on toast. You get some beautifully tender beef on top of a cheese omelet swimming in a tasty gravy. I used the bread to soak up all the wonderfull gravy and this dish was hearty and satisfying. There are cabinets with sandwiches and pies and sweets for those inclined. A must for anyone travelling this beautiful part of New Zealand where the food and coffee is top notch.
This eatery was very highly reviewed and we were excited for our brunch, but were a little disappointed in the end. The place was busy and the wait was around 40 minutes for food,l and 15 for coffee, this was no issue given the food was to be delicious. Unfortunately the food was average, tasty but nothing outstanding. The coffee was hot and tasty, but 15 minutes is quite a wait for a cafe. There were lots of staff but there seemed to be inefficiency somewhere. The food was good, but not outstanding. We had the pancakes which were tasty but there were some raw bits in them, and the Turkish eggs which were well presented and tasty, but not the best I’ve ever had. This eatery has so much potential, and today might have just been an off day, but it needs a little bit if polishing up to convince me of a 5 star rating. There’s also only one singular toilet for a busy restaurant of >30 diners, this needs fixed
Local recommended to go here for breakfast, said it's the best in Tekapo and it did not disappoint! Highly recommend the pancakes. Very large portions, reasonable prices, extremely yummy food. This place is very busy as it's so popular so there may be a wait for food but lady was upfront and told us there may be a longer than 40 minute wait for food. Got our food in 30 minutes so exceeded our expectations. Great service!! Hot chocolate and mocha was great too!
Wow, this was a totally pleasant surprise in this tiny town. The chicken curry wrap was so flavorful. And the pistachio macaron was delicious and not overly sweet. The flat white coffee was also great. I think you will be quite satisfied. Highly recommend it!
Definitely one of the go to spots for breakfast and coffee at Lake Tekapo. Huge selection of food with plenty of vegetarian options too. We were surprised at how good the coffee was especially Tekapo being on the smaller size in terms of population. This place gets very busy very quickly so food does take some time to arrive which has been made worse with staff shortages, however you would have had time to thoroughly enjoy a great coffee before the food surrounded by friendly people and fellow tourost We ordered the greedy breakfast and the French toast both vegetarian and whilst the greedy breakfast wasn't anything overly special, the beans were a bit watery and the scrambled eggs i ordered were a bit over done, the French toast was very well done highlighted with two huge thick cut slices of toast. Also ordered a nut slice to fuel me up for the Mt John summit and found I had devoured it half way up it was so good.
Chanced upon the cafe cause we saw the queue from the main lake tekapo and decided to try it. Best choice! Great Hawthorne blended coffee and fantastic pastries. Friendly staff and great customer service as well. Felt super refresh for the long road trip ahead!
Not that there are plenty of restaurants to choose from… but The Greedy Cow was our favourite cafe at Lake Tekapo! Came here twice during our short stay and we enjoyed one of the best pies we tried through our entire trip - the pork belly pie with Asian spices. We couldn’t stop thinking about it after. Very busy restaurant so expect some waiting time here. Also loved it that the entire team was Asian. We wouldn’t like it any differently otherwise but it’s always nice to see our fellow Asians doing well in a foreign country.
Super busy Cafe, so we only ordered cabinet food and take away coffee. Ham and Egg Pretzel is highly recommended! Huge thick egg and salty bread, super delicious! Iced Chocolate is great and nice hot coffee.
close to the best oat milk cappuccino in New Zealand. Also, the pork belly pie was marvelous! crispy flaky crust with a Chinese 5 spice gravy that was well-balanced. the macarons are massive. not sure that is a good thing, but the pastry was delicate and the filling a quality butter creme. I will be back, and so should you!Food: 5/5
This place is so wonderful! The staff are really polite and friendly, prompt service, nice interior decor, and most importantly, the food taste great! The eggs Benedict is really flavourful, and yet the bread is still nice and crispy. The hot chocolate is one of the best I’ve had! Definitely check this place out if you’re near lake Tekapo!
