The Great War Exhibition commemorates the very significant part that New Zealand played in the First World War.
It is true to say that New Zealand’s very nature was altered by the sacrifice, challenges and war-time experiences of its citizens at home and away. On the home-front the losses incurred on the other side of the world were hard to bear and as well as that the society changed radically with the whole country on a war footing.
The Great War Exhibition shows the war as the soldier saw it – bringing human experiences to the fore. It is a journey rich in personal stories, evoking the gritty experiences of the battlefields and the hardships at home in war-time New Zealand.
It presents a pivotal time in history and offers a unique opportunity for New Zealanders to see, feel and experience the events that helped shape their nation.
Our mission is to memorialise the New Zealand soldiers who fought in World War One for the future we are living today.
