3 Club fishing areas include all waters within New Zealand’s 200 mile EEZ
4 Weigh station: The Big Fish Bait and Tackle shop, and all NZSFC affiliated clubs and on any certified scales. If any fish is weighed on certified scales not from a NZSFC club then proof of the certification number must be written on the weigh form and proof of catch must be provided. (E.g. a photograph, signed letter from person weighing the fish)
5 Catch cards: A Big Fish catch card or catch cards from NZSFC affiliated clubs must be received by The Big Fish Club Weigh master as soon as possible after the capture.
6 Tackle: As an IGFA affiliated club we must fish by IGFA rules at all times. We will weigh but will not recognize fish caught on braid (unless you are going for the snapper softbait/braid trophy)
7 Club pins are awarded for the first fish of the season heavier than line weight, in each of the 9 species we fish for. Those Species are:
Snapper (Minimum size 30cm)
Kingfish (minimum size 1 metre)
Kahawai
Trevally
John Dory
Crayfish (these must be caught by hand)
Tuna (all tuna including Albacore, Skipjack, Yellowfin, Bluefin, Bigeye)
Marlin (Blue, Black and striped) must exceed 90kg
Shark*
*it is the position of this club to encourage tagging and releasing sharks, so tag cards will be accepted at any time but weighed sharks will only be counted for Club Points, Pins, Records and Trophies when caught in a contest that allows the taking of sharks, or if a shark is a New Zealand or World record.
8 We encourage all club members to tag and release all marlin under 90kg.
9 Tagging points for the following fish are as listed
Marlin 100 points
Tuna 25 points
Shark 50 points
Kingfish 25 points
10. If by chance at the end of a season and there are two of the same species weighed in with identical weights then the first weighed fish will receive the trophy. If there are two fish of the same species weighed in on the same day and they would both qualify for a club pin, the first fish weighed will receive the pin.
11. For all fish weighed in for any of The Big Fish fishing contests that are not weighed on our scales the weigh form must be a courtesy weigh for the Big Fish and not for any other club you may belong to in order to qualify for our club competitions.
