The BBQ Hut - Mangawhai

An absolute feast, flavoursome, smoky, and so satisfying The chips were next level! Loved how different it was and the vibe was amazing. Bonus points for dessert next door with fresh fruity ice cream from the Ice Cream Hut

I was recently on a holiday in NZ and discovered the BBQ hut while on a little walk. We were curious to step inside and check out what they had to offer. We were greeted by two lovely ladies who provided us with a nice conversation and we tried out the ribs. Amazing! Perfect flavour and the meat just fell off the bone! So over the next few weeks we went a few other times and tried a lot of the other menu items together. With each visit, we were always greeted with a smile and even though the store itself is quite small, it always felt very warm and welcoming thanks to the lovely staff who work there.nRibs - cooked to perfection and have a really nice sweet sauce. I highly recommend these. We ordered these a few times 11/10nPie - was really good and the pastry was perfect 9/10 -these sell out so fast and are only available on a Friday so I recommend getting in early as you can to try one.n3 meat box with slaw - all 3 meats were cooked to perfection and had sauce/gravy on them. Very flavourful. They were accompanied by a slaw which had like a smoky flavour to it with some pickled onion slices and some pickles. I quite enjoyed a little bit of everything in this box. 8.5/10nDouble smash burger - best burger I've probably ever had. I may have even moaned a little when we tried it highly recommend this!!!! I will definitely be having it again on my next visit to NZ 100/10nPork belly bites - I'm very fussy when it comes to pork belly and prefer a sweet, sticky sauce, so these weren't quite my style, but I will say they were still cooked quite well. They just weren't the flavour that I prefer 8/10nOnion rings - perfect balance of thick onion slices and batter. You could tell they were cooked in fresh, clean oil and had a swirl of aoli on top. I really enjoyed these 10/10nTiramisu slice - this was a lovely dessert and wasn't too overpowering with flavour like some tiramisu desserts can be 8/10nCustard slice - this was the best dessert we tried. Perfectly balanced layers with a lot of creamy custard. This dessert was bursting with flavour without being too sweet. We ordered this multiple times 10/10nnThis store also had a variety of other sides, desserts and both hot and cold drinks available to purchase. I also found it to be reasonably priced for the quality of the food you receive. And then the lovely customer service tops it off as a massive bonus. For anyone passing through the area, I highly recommend you give this little shop a try

B-E-A-UTIFUL! We travelled an hour to try the burgers on a recommendation from a random Facebook post. 100% worth the drive! We ordered a pulled beef brisket burger, smoked pulled beef brisket burger, chips and onion rings. My god, everything was a mouth watering 10/10. Especially loved the ‘chips’ which are the most delicious home made hash brown style chips.nThe staff were absolutely delightful and they had great music playing.nWill definitely be back!

We were greeted by a lovely lady. Ordered chips, pulled pork burger and a brisket burger, and two junior burger meals etc. All really yummy but be mindful that the junior burger meals are not burgers they’re very small sliders and there are only 4 chips! Maybe the menu needs to be clearer as the burger looked bigger on the board! Kids were still hungry after we spent $79 on lunch. Still lovely place to get yummy food though and we’ll be back!

Went there and got the beef and pork/salad box for $25 but was pretty disappointed as the meat was very fatty for such a small portion of meat.nThe lady was friendly but due to disappointment with the food I won’t be coming back!
