Pay homage to the simplicity and beauty of things and peoples past. Learn generations old skills. Stuff with soul. Beginners upholstery, sewing and more.
“The insanity of overconsumption bothers me. Talk about the opiate of the masses. It ain’t religion anymore, it’s stuff. Why don’t governments stop people from making crap?”
Emma Thompson, actress.
One way we can pay homage to the simplicity and beauty of things and peoples past is having a little piece of history in our homes. A step further is to learn the time honoured, generations old skills that made them in the first place. Yep, it sure is cheaper and easier to just buy your chutney from the supermarket and furniture from a super store, but that is kind of missing the point…
The Artisan Workshops will showcase the awe-inspiring talents and passions of a number of locals. Beginners upholstery, learn to sew, preserving, how to grow a successful veggie garden (ditto flower garden), beginners landscaping, how to prune a tree, the guts workshops (kefir, kombucha and sauerkraut), how to build a chook house and keep your girls happy, pallet furniture and more.
First Up: Beginner's Upholstery - Stuff with Soul. Tutored by Christina Neubert, co-author of Living Green: The NZ Handbook for an eco-friendly, toxin-free, sustainable life. Christina has been reupholstering and restoring furniture for some years.
