The Albie Takeaway is a funny place. As a family we often travel there as our son Albie demands it. When we go, fish and chips are the reason.nnDo ring the bell - it's not rude and you'll be waiting if you don't.nnThe chips are good. The wedges are good. This hasn't changed and I hope never will. If you are looking for chips do look here.nnThe fish however, varies wildly in portion size and quality of fish. I've had some old tasting fish here - occasionally feeling grateful that they had given us so little. Other times, I've had a good chunk of good fish. You just don't know what you're going to get.
Ummmm… I diddnt know you could muck up ice cream this bad! I’m sorry to put in a bad review but both mine and my partners ice creams were terrible. Half vanilla ice cream in the cone and half mulched berries at the top! It was a bit hard to eat with how acidic it was. My partners ice cream fell off the cone as it resembled a skinny leaning tower of Pisa. The girl who served me were lovely but they knew the quality wasn’t great as they said sorry and were giggling, they also pinched off the ice cream with their bare fingers. Very sad : and for $9 …
Great local pub. Can be very lively on quiz night, it's a staple in Albert town. The beer selection is plenty and the food is good and well priced. It's been a good year working in Wanaka and having a place to go after work to hang and eat. Not a bad place to eat there alone too the staff is pretty chilled
Good pub for a hearty pub style meal and a post work beer. Had the fish pie and burger, both tasty, no complaints. Nice choice of beers on tap, don't know local beers too well yet but the sour and ale I tried were refreshing. Bar tenders were friendly both times we've been. Would recommend for a casual bite. The dining room to the right is nice and bright with big windows. They have an outdoor area of the pub as well.
Super average chips. Too over-cooked and dry to eat without sauce. Reminded me of powdery day old chips that have been microwaved, although we waited long enough for them to have been cooked in oil smelt like old oil in the shop, which I suppose is just the nature of a chip shop. Disappointed that Chip-mad Toddler won’t even eat them, as it was our expensive meal treat for the week. Buyers remorse. Picture shows $13.50 worth of chips.nnUnsure if this is the case, but perhaps staff need to be shown how to blanch chips first and do a second cook once customer orders, rather than dump straight from freezer. But if the oil’s old or too hot, that may not improve the outcome. Others may love chips like this, so just down to personal taste.
