Love going to Hook. Nothing beats catching your own salmon and then having it cooked for you. The grounds are nicely manicured and the pond is big enough that you aren't crowded in. We enjoyed a beer and pineapple chili margaritas on tap while we waited for our sashimi and hot smoked salmon. Service was exceptional. Even if you don't catch a fish, they have other options for food which was also very good. We got a pizza and fries as well. Very enjoyable and would definitely go back again. Highly recommend.
Had great time with friends fishing the salmon here. The food was delicious. However, the ordering system was a bit off, the staff said it was the new system. Overall, it is a great place! Must visit with kids!
What an experience. We had our lunch here on our way from lake tekapo to Queenstown. Everything here was perfect! You pay 10nzd for some tools to fish a salmon at the lake and within mins, we caught one. And we got the fish weigh about 2.5kg and we decide how we want it done. So…We had it sashimi and we ordered some rice and oysters to pair with it. It was delicious. Highly recommended!!
Absolutely delicious fresh salmon. Enjoyed the platter for 2 and it was amazing. The bread it came with needed a bit more in the oven but otherwise the fish itself was great.nWalked around and viewed the fisherman kids, very cute.
What an incredible experience at Hook Wanaka. We loved catching our own salmon – it was fun, easy to learn, and the staff were extremely helpful and patient, especially for beginners. The setting is beautiful with clear ponds and stunning mountain views, making it a great photo spot as well.nnAfter catching our salmon, we chose to have it prepared two ways: sashimi-style and hot smoked. Both were outstanding – the sashimi was fresh and buttery, and the smoked salmon was perfectly cooked with rich flavour. We also enjoyed delicious pizzas, making it a memorable lunch with friends.nnHighly recommended for anyone visiting Wanaka. It is not just a meal, it is a whole experience that combines fun, fresh food, and great service in a beautiful setting.
