The main highlight of this place is undoubtedly its onsen, which offers an exceptional and unforgettable experience. It's easily the best onsen I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. The soothing atmosphere and pristine waters make it the perfect place to unwind and relax.nnHowever, when it comes to the rooms, they are quite average, lacking the charm and quality that you might expect. Another downside is the lack of housekeeping services, which was disappointing. In particular, there were no towels available near the onsen area, which is quite inconvenient, and I believe an open shower in that space would be a great addition for guests.nnMy biggest concern, however, was the absence of daily housekeeping. This is something I’ve never encountered at hotels in Japan, where cleanliness and regular service are typically top-notch. Having visited Japan several times, I found this to be highly unusual and somewhat disappointing, especially when it is run by Japanese family.nnWhile the onsen is a highlight that keeps the place worth visiting, the shortcomings in room quality and service leave room for improvement.
Decent hotel, but you're staying for the onsen, not the rooms. As mentioned in other reviews, the front gate is locked every night, but you are provided a key to get in and out so you're still free to explore Rotorua at night if you choose to.nnOur room was dated, to say the least. I believe some of the pictures of rooms you'll see in these reviews have been renovated, but ours definitely wasn't. Not bad necessarily, and it was clean, but everything looked, and felt, extremely worn down. The bathroom was...not great. The shower is basically a stainless steel cupboard which is a real shame since you'll be using it quite a bit before each of your dips in the onsen. If you get room 4 on check in, ask if they have anything else available or it's likely to put a damper on your stay.nnThe outdoor onsen is the real reason you'll want to stay here. I can't comment on the indoor ones as they were unfortunately closed for the duration of our stay. There is no outdoor shower to cool off during your bath, but it's probably the best natural hot spring you're likely to get outside of Japan. Nothing quite like sitting in a natural hot spring pool at night with a cool breeze and the stars above. This alone made the whole stay worth it.nnThe outdoor pool is amazing and was a great way to relax both before and after a full day exploring the town. Beautiful atmosphere and the pool is regularly cleaned as well. It's very private and you'll have it completely to yourself during your allotted time.
We enjoyed our stay at Terume. Raymond, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are neat and tidy. The highlight is the hot spring that you can book after check- in. They offer a 30 minute session and it's private booking. We booked the session at night and it was wonderful.
We stayed at Terume with a child and a baby and we had a relaxing holiday. The in house hot springs was clean and just amazing, very rejuvenating for tired parents to recharge. The owners were very welcoming and kind. Thank you for having us and we will be back soon!
Neat and tidy rooms with hot spring for guests to use. Each room can book dedicated sessions. There are 3 sessions for each night’s stay, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Highly recommend the evening sessions, especially during summer time.
