About

A course full of native trees and and native birds. Friendly locals always willing to help. A beautiful challenging course 5mins north of Upper Hutt

Story

The Te Marua Golf Club is an 18 hole course situated in a wonderful river and bush rural setting, 5-10 minutes drive from the Upper Hutt City Centre. The course is built on gently undulating ground adjacent to the Hutt River, with just enough elevation on some holes to provide an additional challenge. The river is in play on the first hole but runs adjacent to 8 holes and many balls end up working their way towards the Wellington harbour.

The existing layout was designed in the mid 1960s by the American Golf Course Architect Commander Harris who later combined with well known golfer Peter Thompson of Australia to design the Wairakei course near Taupo. He worked with the original character of the land to create a picturesque course, where native birds flourish.

The course has an average degree of difficulty, making the most of the natural hazards which can make their presence known all too easily. A few bunkers are the only artificial hazards to have been added to the course over the years, showing that the original design has stood the test of time.

Greatest course in the Hutt Valley? Some might say. Had a hole in one on 11 in 2018 so holds a special place in my heart still waiting for my name on the honors board. You can't beat the serenity particularly for weekday twilight rounds. The course is made of two very different nines, both with their own challenges. The front nine has some particularly fun holes starting with the 1st where your tee shot is hit over the river. Stroke 1 to get you started, many mulligans have been had. They do cheap summer memberships so worth looking into that if you're local.
Beautiful place! Very scenic with the river nearby and heaps of trees and native bird life. The grounds are reasonably well maintained. Quite out of the way for anyone who doesn't live out in the Hutt Valley and generally always a bit of traffic along the whole way, but all good. Would recommend this place if you're after a leisurely day away from the noise. Karen is also very friendly and helpful.
Te Marua Golf Club has a picturesque course located north of Upper Hutt. Enclosed by the hills and Te Marua River and laid out over different level, thearde course presents both challenges and amazing views. The course itself is in excellent order with lots of colourful flowering plants and gardens. The prices are moderate, about what you would expect for a course of this quality. Thr clubrooms have an upstair eatery and bar that provide both great affordable food, but also great views of the course. My favourite golf course in the whole Wellington Region.
Best golf course in Wellington, beautiful scenery and a variety of easy and more difficult holes. The course is in excellent condition.
Great course, plenty of challenges. Wonderful people and staff
Lovely staff very helpful & nice park up for Motorhome.Very quite, secure & for a small fee you have use of shower & toilets
Great golf course and pro shop. You can sneak in some food at the 10th hole as you cut back across the main club. Well kept course with nice complexity to it to boot.
Great course, good varied holes. Looks out for grabone deals.
Didn't feel overly welcome being a paying guest on the course on entry. But all was good when on the course. Beautiful greens and tranquil atmosphere with the river running throughout and round the course. A cheeky beer and food in the clubhouse hit the spot nicely too.
The course is looking good in particular the greens. #1 is quite a challenge where you got to drive over the river. Its wider than you think. Yup my ball ended up in there this afternoon lol. That's golf. If you are a casual average golfer you need to carry a few golf balls.
