Worst hostel I have ever stayed at in my life! They had lost my reservation, closed down the reception and locked the entrance an hour before the scheduled time leaving two travellers with reservations outside. The place is horrendous, dirty and it smells awful. The fact that they ask for a NZ 25 key deposit makes me believe that they house homeless people there often. Unorganized and messy. I saw a bunch of mattresses just standing against a wall in one of the hallways. And what they advertise as free internet is only 50MB, if you want more you have to buy it. Would not recommend it.
WARNING!!!! If I could pick no stars I would. This place is absolutely terrible do not stay here!!! I had a private room with my boyfriend and the bed was so uncomfortable there was springs sticking into our backs the entire night and we were there for 4 nights !!!! There was a terrible smell I wanted to gag every time I walked into the kitchen and in the hall ways. The kitchen was dirty and there was never any fridge space as the fridges were very small. We washed everything before using it cause it just felt so dirty there. The workers started to clean and 6am in the hallways vacuuming and being loud and there was other people getting up at that time as well yelling and talking down the halls. The room felt like a prison it had no windows and was dingy and small. Also they wifi was terrible they only give you 300mb a day and In this day and age is not a lot. If you want more you have to pay for it. I WOULD NOT recommend this place to anybody. Do not stay here. 0 stars to this gross place
Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had, hostel is a run down horrible dwelling, staff haven't got a clue about hospitality nor do they enforce there own rules plastered every 2 steps, you have no chance of sleep before 4am due to nightclubs and don't expect you're requests of what type of room to be met, I asked for male only due to socal awkwardness of mixed and first night was placed in a mix room because the bed I had was gone, and a mixed room to mind you! The beds are rock hard too.....do NOT waste you're time and money!
Terrible, horrible, pathetic expericance! Asked for me and my friend to be in the same room upon our stay, and they completely ignored our request.. I then spoke with reception and demanded a refund due to this... 6 days later- the money was still not back in our account. Then called manager and he bassically “verbally abused” me over the phone, saying he would only transfer 1 nights money to our account. The rooms had mould on the roof, the rooms stunk and this is a major health and safety issue with bacteria. I highly recommend that NO one stays here, it is a horrible, unpleasant customer experience
Worst hostel I ever stayed at. For what you get it's ridiculously expensive. The rooms don't have windows and it's so smelly everywhere. The kitchen is dirty the bathrooms are eh.. Not as Abad but still disgusting. I can't believe how they could charge you 32 dollars for this. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone really.
They don’t even deserve 1 star. I have been in many backpackers before and I have never received such bad service that I did from the team here at Tauranga backpackers. They mucked up our booking, which after a very long drive, was so frustrating. They made us pay before they told us the mistake, then refused a refund when we requested. After negotiating, the man in the front desk said he will refund the money the next day. Coming on 7 days later with no response, no refund or anything, So I call their manager. He then goes on to say he will only refund 1 night. As a student that was travelling, money is tight After all, it was his staffs fault and error. He then swore at me on the phone after I threatened to take further action. I would recommend to NEVER stay here. The rooms absolutely stunk and had mould on part of the roof. Surely a health a safety risk. Poor, poor service
I think is a nice backpackers depending on what you are looking for. If you want to make friends from all over the world I think this is the right place for you. But if you want a quiet place, tidy, nice smell, with nice showers, and a nice and clean Kitchen, with decent people. This is definitely not the place for you as it's all the opposite. It seems like they haven't renovate this place in years which makes it unhygienic and some times disgusting.
Stayed here for one night. Very run down building, no external window in the dorm, extremely overpriced, no traveller atmosphere. Bad security during the day, common room smells of smoke and the bathrooms are extremely dirty. The only thing the hostel has going for it is the location.
Awful place - easily the worst backpackers I've been to. Has a really worn down feel about it, and gross facilities. Staff really disorganised, and the beds/pillows were thin and uncomfortable. Avoid like the plague!
This is possibly the worst backpackers in the world. Avoid like the plague!! Stinky, grimey, soul less. The bathrooms were disgusting, and when I went to take a shower in the morning, there was a creepy male "cleaner" in the ladies bathroom, grinning from ear to ear. Totally inappropriate. I really can't believe this place is open. It's a bad scene.
