Sparkling sand and gravity defying rock face! This is a place to visit, the water is warm and there is a beach cove off the main swimming beach. Sand sparkles like little diamonds and the cliff next to the beach with its suspended rocks is spectacular, photos do not do it justice. Take your own drinks and plenty of snacks for the day as there is no close shops. There is a restaurant if you fancy a quick bite.
A “must-do” little hike for the views up to Tasman Lookout when you visit Piha Beach. It’s only 20 minutes or less up the trail from the end of the parking lot on the South end of Piha Beach to the lookout. Beautiful views from there of the beaches, the ocean, the town of Piha and the surrounding mountains. You can also see the Gap and the Blue Pools from here.nIt’s an uphill hike to the lookout, but the trail is easy and anyone can do it. You can hike one way from the parking area, or the other way from the beach at the Blue Pools.nIf you hike from the parking lot, just keep hiking south past the lookout, and you will find the trail down to the beach, the Blue Pools and the Gap. All great places to see and a beautiful place to relax and soak in the water.nAt low tide, you can continue walking along the beach at the Gap, and around to the southern part of Piha Beach
The Tasman Lookout Path takes you from Piha beach to some of the local hidden gems.nnThis path is at its best at low tide, when you can freely roam around the rocky outcrops, islands and inlets.nnIt is spectacular to see the sea raging in a strong westerly swell – but you may not be able to do the complete loop at such times, however the views from the top trail will be worthwhile.nnStart at the main Piha Beach car park and head to southern end, where the path takes you on a short, steep climb to the ridge where great views await.nnWhile climbing over, enjoy the short side trip to the first lookout point which takes in the view back across Piha Beach and towards Taitomo Island.nnCarry on and check out The Gap – a famous spot where at high tide the waves crash over the rocky ledge and form a perfect swimming beach.nnDescend down to the grassy area that leads to the blow-hole, a popular destination, especially at full tide. Be careful around the rocks there, they can be slippery.nnReturning from the blow-hole, keep left and head to the beach to see The Gap at eye level. If the tide allows, you can roam around the wide beach past Taitomo Island with its stunning portal. If the tide is in you can stay close to the shore, but be careful, the rockface is very crumbly and large rocks and boulders can come down at any moment. It is best to stay away from there if possible.nnAn easy, level stroll takes you back to the car park, or you can follow the beach to Lion Rock if want to take in more of this magnificent coastline.nnA beautiful, easy walk with a short, steep climb at the start. Great for kids, especially on a nice day.
little bit hard to get to the top but once you get there you forget all about the hard and sweaty way up. beautiful views, we stayed for sunset and i was amazed. the whole park, the beach, the ocean - definitely a must see if you are in auckland.
Most amazing views are all around you ... unfortunately the lookout up the mountain has been closed due to landslides.
