Story

Taradale High School , is a co-educational secondary school situated in the town of Taradale in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Taradale High School accommodates from years 9-13. The school currently has an attendance role of approximately 1060 students as of February 2011.FacilitiesThe school is structurally a "Nelson 2H" school, like most New Zealand secondary schools built in the 1960s. The Nelson 2H is distinguished by its two-storey H-shaped classroom blocks, with stairwells at each end of the block and a large ground floor toilet and cloak area on one side. Taradale has two Nelson 2H classroom blocks - A and B blocks. The school is well resourced with modern facilities which include a learning support centre, a gymnasium, a music and drama suite, four computer suites, an additional suite of computers and VLN facilities in the library, an extensive technology complex and an attractive environment with extensive sports grounds. A new food technology/hospitality facility was commissioned in 2006 and has since been completed along with a dance studio as part of a major gymnasium refit. In 2017, a new state of the art science block has been built.School achievements and historyThe school opened on 3 February 1970, although some of the buildings were not yet complete or painted, and the playing fields were bare earth with stones and rocks. The science class had no equipment, and the library was short of books. The opening ceremony was not held until 17 July 1970, and the Minister of Education, Brian Talboys, was unable to attend and a replacement speaker was hastily organised. Of the original ten staff members, four left during the first year. Despite these problems, the school presented a concert involving every class at the end of the second term, and a basketball marathon set an endurance record for the Guinness Book of Records. The school magazine, then called Teamhar Leabhar (Gaelic for The Book of Tara), published its first issue.

Pretty good school overall, made a bunch of friends, never got bullied. Some of the teachers are really good, none that I have had have been particularly bad. One downside is that there's almost always construction of some kind going on which can make getting around a little annoying. However, what really makes this school shine was the B Block fire. It's great to see a school experimenting with ways to spice up an education. Keep it up!
As a devoted basketball fan and a student, I couldn't have asked for a better school for me than Taradale High School. The atmosphere at this school is electrifying, with basketball being a central pillar of its identity. From the courtside cheers to the thunderous applause, this institution truly champions the spirit of the game. First and foremost, the facilities at THS are nothing short of exceptional. The basketball courts are state-of-the-art, with gleaming hardwood floors and top-notch lighting, creating the perfect stage for young athletes to hone their skills. The gymnasium, with its comfortable seating, provides an amazing backdrop for parents and fans to enjoy the games. It's always a thrill to watch our young athletes excel in such a professional environment. It is the ultimate hub for budding basketball enthusiasts. It's not just a school; it's a community of passionate players, dedicated coaches, and supportive families. I'm grateful to have witnessed my own growth, both on and off the court, and I wholeheartedly recommend Taradale High School to anyone looking for an institution where basketball is more than just a sport—it's a way of life. This school truly deserves a full-court standing ovation!
Pretty good school, made heaps of friends here. Teachers are alright, some of them are really good, but others are not so nice to people. The education here is really good, whenever im in class, all the teachers are very prepared for the lesson and know exactly what we are going to do. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to send there kids here!
Pretty average school . Made heaps of friends. Mad they let Mr crafar leave, he was good as. Some of the room quality's are pretty bad, with teared curtains dirty desks etc. They build big new buildings yet hardly anyone has classes in there, or even gets to see/visit inside. Canteen fabulous, they have big waffles for $2. They had new dishes everyday like macaroni and cheese, pizza, salads. For all you intermediate and primary school kids, yes there is juicys and mooses here and other ice creams. Exams are scary and some teachers are useless. Except Mr lowes he is funny as, and nice, same as Mr Crafar, and Mr searle. Mrs mannings gives out snacks in earth and space if you ask, she is terrific.
I struggled at this school and was consistently looked down upon. This school was intensively difficult as I was always bullied because of my dead parents. I now suffer from ptsd. Post Traumatic Down Syndrome, for all you bakas out there
