Have eaten here for 12 years off and on. The food comes served in little plastic baskets, so it really does feel like the quintessential diner experience, right in the heart of Wellington. Brunch is also available every morning, and all day over the weekend. There’s a good selection of classic desserts too, classic American pumpkin pie included . The venue is now tired with little interior updates. The food prices are very fair and tasty. The added value is Sweet Mothers also sell alcohol with its fun and spicy food! Vegetarian options: Great selections and options Kid-friendliness: Plenty of room Wheelchair accessibility: Good layout Dietary restrictions: Good
My wife and stopped by here for some lunch. Had an amazing lunch here. The service was great! Comfortable seating and eating area. I would have wished for a side plate on the table, would have been easier to share food with my wife. The fried chicken I had was crispy and yet not greasy. Same for the fries. I would definitely go back here to try more items of the menu.
We had a nice dining experience. We had the beef ribs with bourbon mash and the crispy chicken with curly fries which, unfortunately they had run out of curly fries. These were both tasty but the chicken was a bit dry and a little more rib would have been nice.
Went there for there for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast had the eggs bomba, breakfast burrito with SMK spicy sausage and a side of hash. It was delicious and would definitely order the dishes again. For dinner had the jambalaya, jerk chicken, fish tacos and pork belly tacos and curly fries. The jambalaya was delicious however would prefer dark chicken meat over chicken breast. The tacos were also good - crackling on the pork belly wasn't as crunchy as I like it but I am very picky when it comes to crackling. The jerk chicken was disappointing and would not order again - chicken breast was dry again prefer dark meat and the beans were basically tasteless. The dessert of banoffee pie and key lime pie was also quite good. Personally, I'm not a fan of banana flavoured caramel in the banoffee pie but overall it was still good.
Burrito with spicy homemade sausage average and turned out to be burrito with boiled sausage with spicy sauce, but then the staff couldn’t even remember if that went on. My advice is that if you’re going to charge extra for a meal then give people what they pay for or at least pay the courtesy of acknowledging a problem. A shrug and apparent ‘who cares, we’ve got your money’ attitude is appalling.
Authentic New Orleans-style food and atmosphere in this friendly venue. We enjoyed jambalaya, Bananas Foster and the best Bread n Butter pudding, along with drinks.
Went for a family meal, which turned sour very early in the evening. The glass I was given for my beer had a food stain on it! We had ordered Steak, Chowder and a Po’Boy along with a side order of chips. Well the steak was bloody when we had ordered Medium! The Chowder was a very small portion and the bread wasn’t toasted properly The Po’Boy! Ooh that way just a ’Poor Boy’. Hardly any salad, the pulled pork was more like mushy pork. It seemed like the sandwich wasn’t made, just thrown together in a hurry, I had to open it and reassemble it. The only saving grace was the bread was gud. The fries never came! And when I told them at the counter the server who incidentally hd taken our order and served us seemed surprised! The Manager did take off a couple of drinks off our bill but you know what, Managers and operators need to realise it’s not about money, it’s about ruining a family’s evening. By the way, I had to go elsewhere and fill my stomach.
New owner is having teething problems so didn’t have pumpkin pie — of all days on Thanksgiving. But the peanut butter pie and keylime pie were fantastic. We were taken with the succulent taste of the pork belly in the taco and also the chicken basket. Parking: This is in the night-life center Wellington, so there is on-street parking, but sometimes they are filled up with the crowds enjoying Courtney Place. But the bus stop is very-very close. Wheelchair accessibility: All one level and same as street level. Outdoor area would be very easy for Wheelchair or mobility devices.
100% recommend. Best brunch in a long time, the staff was super nice even when they were slammed during the rush. The food was amazing, special shout-out to the pulled pork!
Liked the decor, the service was great, and the bloody marias were seriously amazing but the chicken and waffles were pretty average and disappointing. The waffles frankly tasted nothing like waffles but more like stale bread?
