Stopped in here for a family breakfast. The place was one of the few open mid morning on Cuba Street. The staff were welcoming and the place had a coffee roaster which I thought would be a good sign. Found a booth which had certainly seen better days toward the back, which as there were three of us was one of the only tables that would have space. The menu was nothing special and we opted for 2 x big breakfast at $19 each and a $17 special hashbrowns with salmon and avocado. The big breakfast was alright, provided what was described on the menu, but in my opinion wasn't worth $19 however, my wife enjoyed the $17 special and coffee was good as was the service.
This place food is plainly mediocre... had a poached eggs on toast, bread was rock hard and bruising to the mouth, and the 2 eggs I had was really inconsistent: one was runny the other was cooked through to the yoke. It’s pretty cold too when I had it. Coffee was bland as well, which didn’t surprise me at all. Their teas are $5 for Dilma teabags you can get 50 bags for $5 from supermarket... I’m never coming back here for food. Price is quite affordable but I guess you get what you pay for. Atmosphere was okay. Pretty quiet place with a plenty of seats. -------- EDIT: Please note Aroma left a comment to my review: "We already checked our security camera and got staffs’ reports this morning about your case. Nothing special that happened excepting your complain about tea price. It seems that it may be your confusion between tea with self-service and tea served at restaurants. " Honestly, I find this response hilariously shocking: 1. My main disappointment was their food and coffee, the tea is a minor issue in comparison 2. At Aroma, their barista white coffees are $4.5, while their tea is $5. This was not normal in Wellington and hence my surprise 3. I used to work at a cafe in Wellington, and I know most teas are made with tea bags, but they wouldn't be more expensive than a freshly made coffee. The fact that they trying to mock me as "confused about self servicing tea and tea served at a restaurant" seems to me incredibly rude. I was expecting a friendly apology and I cannot believe how wrong their attitude is towards customer service.
The new owner keeps the previous old deco style well, old classical historic elements to be shown by the deco on the high shelves and the coffee baking machine. The breakfast is good enough to feed me comfortably. Nice place to catch up with the mates here too.
We came here on the second day of the new year as nothing much was opened, beverages were not up to par. Chai latte was awfully sweet with very little taste of Chai. Cappuccino was drenched with powder on top and the coffee itself was below average. Service was okay, nothing too special.
Very nice coffee joint with very friendly staff and bites that are at least a billion times better tasting than what 'the mermaid company' offers. At times, stragglers like this cutie pop in and beg for a crumb. Will definitely visit more often!
Best eggs Benedict I’ve had. Lucky enough to arrive as the muffins came out of he oven - amazing! To top everything - very polite staff.
This is nice place in Wellington and serve very friendly. Coffee and food are ok.
Decent breakfast and coffee. Free Wifi and very spacious - great place to sit and do work for a few hours!
