Our collection includes a great range of adult fiction and non-fiction books, Large Print and audio books, magazines, DVDs, Music CDs, and a Teen collection. We also have Chinese, French and Spanish collections.

Our wonderful children’s area has board-books for the littlies, picture-books and junior fiction, easy-readers, audio-books, children’s DVDs and music CDs, and non-fiction books. We hold Storytime for pre-schoolers three times a week, and Wriggle and Rhyme for babies once a week and Rhyme Time for toddlers on a Tuesday.

We offer free internet access with 10 public computers available for library members and visitors, and free Wi-fi inside the Library. The St Heliers library is the only great public heritage building remaining in this bay. It's looked after well. The books and the staff are outstanding. Recommended.
Great library. Easy access. Very helpful staff. Plenty of places to read, study or work.
Very helpful staff. JP on Saturday mornings was really helpful and kind when getting documents verified. Thank you. Currently being renovated to meet seismic regulations. Library operating from RSA hall next door during renovations Aug 22 to early 23
Take the book and read on a bench. Just beautiful. It's open too.
I’ve always heard good things about St Heliers Library, and I also enjoyed to be there. Today my dad and I went to get a book that we booked a few days ago. We are immigrants and we still think it’s hard to ’talk’ in situations like that, specially my dad. Anyways, we got there and there was a lady ready to ’help’ us. You could see in her eyes that she was stressed about everything in there. When she came to us, she started to talk rudely. My dad was struggling to talk and she was just making everything worse. She also asked if we had registered ourselves and if we had the Library card, something that we have since January 2020. The only thing we wanted was the book. Not St Heliers Library fault but wasn’t expecting that.
Lovely library tucked away under some trees. It was nice and quiet, as per your average Saturday afternoon. Staff are very helpful in helping to locate books. Even for a single storey building, there is a surprising amount of books available for perusal! Only comment for thought is that there is only one toilet facility available so there can be the occasional wait.
Great community library well run by long serving, friendly and knowledgeable librarians
Top marks for such friendly help from librarians, always . As a recent convert back from the ipad/ebook to the proverbial hard back I am so pleased with the efficiency and ease one can access the AK Library website . Lovely quiet air conditioned refuge from the Auckland heat. A couple of minor things: Maybe some more up to date magazines copies on the stands and maybe a tad more quiet . Caregivers reading stories out loud to their children could best be done at home or in the park .
Great library, easy to use. Children's and adults sections are good but the teen fiction area could be a little bigger. Still a great place though, and a beautiful building.
I go to this library because it's my local but if it wasn't, I wouldn't go there. It's a good space to work, but the librarians there are quite prickly and cold.
