Soprano Petone has always been one of my favorite Italian restaurants, so when we were invited for dinner here I had been dreaming of Italian food since!nWe started off with some beautiful drinks, I immediately zoned my eyes onto the creamy soda and my friend went for the sneaky Sunrise both mocktails.nI love how the place was decked out in pretty fairy lights and vines, there are another three rooms at the back if you want a more secluded dining experience.nI must admit, I have never had burrata before, but have watched so many videos online about it, so this had to be ordered! Then we decided to get 2 small pasta dishes they are actually really big for a small! instead of one large one because FOMO! Actually still missed out because there were so many to choose from that we had to skip on! I had my eyes on the marinara, so this is going on my list for next time! My friend said he really loves a good Osso buco and this was also the first main that popped out to me, so it was at least an easy consensual choice.nThe burrata was so good, it was gooey and the balsamic vinegar really made the flavour pop, dip the bread in with the tomato and the pesto and the flavour just bursts in your mouth, the ciabatta was also homemade!nThe gnocchi was super creamy and cheesy, and if you love cheese this cannot be missed! When you have a craving for an Italian cheesy dish, this is it! The risotto has a very fragrant panchetta flavour coming through and the rice was cooked just right, dare I say it has a nice wok flavour and the chewiness of the mushroom works very well here. Then came the main affair which was the venison, OMG it just melts in your mouth, please do not laugh at me in the video because I got too excited and tried to cut it with the back of the knife as you can see, who needs the front of the knife for this!? The meat just fell apart and super tender and juicy, the parsnip puree was so creamy and the sauce was very umami, the surprise thing for me was the kale, which is not technically my favorite food in the world, but it soaked up all the flavours and I think this is probably the best one can do with kale!nThe bonus of course is the bone marrow, which was very well gelatinised, packed full of flavours and tender, this topped the night!nWe of course had to get the tiramisu at an Italian restaurant, and tossing up between the other desserts, we were recommended the flourless chocolate torte.nThe velvety chocolate accompanied by the rich Berry gelato were the perfect finish to the meal, and the creamy tiramisu had a fragrant hit of coffee, with a friendly service, this is going on my top Italian restaurant list in Wellington now!
A few weeks ago, i visited Soprano's for dinner. Had been here a while ago and had a good experience, so I was keen to come back. However, I was disappointed when i came back. Upon ordering my main, it took 40 minutes for it to arrive at my table. I ordered the Linguine Amatriciana, which i found to be very average with the quantity of panceta being very limited. The reasturant was also very hot inside, and the music playing in the restaurant was loud, making conversations hard. Overall would if you're looking for an Italian meal in Petone, I would suggest you visit La Bella Italia instead.
Lovely Italian restaurant in Petone. The service is fantastic with the waiters very knowledgeable about food and wine pairings. Every single dish we ordered was delicious and tasted authentic. We’ve since been back another time and easily recommend this restaurant to friends. Really good entrees such as the calamari and the mains are not only delicious, but large portions. After all of this, despite the full stomach, you’ll want to get the tiramisu to finish things off. The first time we went, they also had this incredible cake see photos but it’s not on the menu. Hopefully they bring it back again!
2 words....Crazy Good! Thanks to our host Anthony, The Chefs and crew for an outstanding Italian experience. Honestly the best Pasta I've tried. This restaurant is another great addition to the Petone food scene on Jackson. Unbelievable food, exceptional service and nice relaxed atmosphere. Thanks, we will be back for more!
I have eaten at this place regularly for the past 25 yrs and enjoyed every single meal. However tonight’s meal20/11/24 we noticed the portions were smaller, we had the risotto, and the price was the same as previous times. The eye fillet steak and a bowl of fries wasn’t worth $42. Veges were an exta cost if I wanted them.
