Went down to watch Birkenhead FC for football. Handily placed off the 97B/R bus routes, it’s a doddle to walk down to the park.nnParking spacious and with the football pitches, can become busy, however there was stacks of room for this 5.30pm kick off and despite the cool weather, there is a lot of space for all and clearly a great place when warm for families and those playing sport alike.
Scenic walk, mostly level walking and less of uphill walking. Path and bridge have been redone recently.

Shepherds Park is on the Northshore region of Auckland in Beach Haven and is named after the Shepherd family who farmed there for several generations. This large park consists of a native bush, bike riding tracks and sports facilities such as tennis courts. It provides multiple recreation facilities including tramping, walking, fitness equipment, learn to ride bike trail, sports fields and facilities for football, futsal, squash and tennis. The park is home to the Birkenhead United AFC, Beach Haven Bowling Club, Beach Haven Tennis Club and Shepherds Park Squash Club.nnThere are occasional campaigns in the bush where locals come together for native re-generation, planting and cleaning programmes on a voluntary basis. There are also structured environmental programmes for kids and adults which take place frequently at the park.nnA large playground, toilets, a barbecue, picnic tables and seats, and a great network of paths are inside the park. Follow Shepherds Park Path for a short run under 30 mins or bike ride around the park.nnThere's a short 'learn to ride' path that loops around the playground. It's ideal for kids developing their confidence on bikes or scooters.
I walked around the park with 'The Clean Up Crew' for a community clean up.nSo Beautiful in Autumn with the orange leaves falling.
