SANBELL ORIGINS:
The name “Sanbell” is a combination of names of the husband and wife team who own and operate the business. Since its establishment, it has seen the invested support of many family members, namely their parents (who they pay tribute to through many of their dishes). HE hails from the villages of Saleaula and Nofoalii. Although she was born and bred in New Zealand, SHE descends from various Pacific Islands, including Samoa (Faleula and Leulumoega), Tonga and Tokelau. They are both equally proud of their Pasifika heritage.
At Sanbell Catering, we are passionate about Pacific Island cuisine. For the past nine years, we have had the privilege of serving up feasts to many of the Polynesian communities. Our dishes infuse the traditional taste of an Island paradise with the flavours of contemporary dining.
Our experienced chef grew up on the island of Upolu in Samoa amongst the natural resources that contribute to the bulk of the Polynesian people’s diet. From a very young age, he learnt the values of trade within the produce sector, selling fresh fruit and delectable vegetables at the market alongside his mother. It was also her who influenced his zeal for cooking as she laboured with love with every meal she made. It was here that he learnt to appreciate the various dishes one could create with his mum’s home-grown harvest. This was coupled by witnessing his father, an avid fisherman, bring home spoils from the sea. Oka (Raw fish), Fai’ai fe’e (Baked Octopus with coconut cream), Fai’ai Pusi (Eel with coconut cream) and many other dishes were a part of family meals. We pay homage to this history by including such dishes in our menus whilst incorporating modern inspirations of cooking by adding a flare of kiwi flavour.

Great friendly customer service, very kind and genuine service. Samoan food is yummy! Clean place . Loved the atmosphere. They do coffee as well
Although the food is great, it doesn't excuse the poor hygiene practice of your serving staff. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it standard food handling practice to be wearing gloves? I was extremely shocked to see the girl who was dishing up my sapasui, sweep up the vermicelli hanging over the container, not with the spoon but with her finger. She didn't seem to see any problem with that as she went back, opened the container, used the spoon to clean up, then came to pack it up for me! No disrespect intended, as I'm mindful of food poisoning, but who knows where her hands have been? Hasn't covid taught us anything about the importance of hand hygiene?
My first time there. BRAVO!!!!!!!, what a nice place to walk into I was immediately greeted even with 3 other customers already in front of me getting served. The lady was very aware of her customers after me and acknowledged them also. Prices are affordable. I got x2 junior pk consisting of x1 chicken thigh, chips, can of drink $6. I think she knew I wasn't Samoan so greeted me in English. Anyways TY for the amazing service. I'll be back soon. FYI. Maybe a Lil less seasoning on the chips, not a complaint just a critique. GOD BLESS
If you are looking for Polynesian soul food than Sanbells offers great variety of both Samoan hot and cold treats. Classics like sapasui, luau, fried pumpkin/lamb. Sanbells also offer 'Mulipipi' Turkey Back on its hot servings which is probably the only venue that does offer. Classic sweets: Paifala, Pagi Popo, Pagekeke. Be quick as it generally always entertains long ques during lunch and before closing time.
Came here with my husband the lady that was serving us was rude and we wanted to get out of there so we ended up only buying taro,we always love to support small businesses but $19 1 taro is not even worth it and with the bad service to top it off gave you a 1 star. Will not recommend at all.
