I went to the boarding school from 1995-1996. My Cottage was Hurley. My social worker was Angela Arnold-Kelly, Mrs Maria Robinson was Principal. Deputy Principal was Mrs Hyde. Teachers included: Miss Greep and Mrs Hydein Room 5, Mrs Cardiffin Room 6, Mrs Howardin Room 3, Mrs Flintoffin the Transition Room and Mrs Bakerin the Cooking Room. The Cottages were: Hurleyfor the much older girls, McRaefor the intermediate aged girls and Parkerfor the very much younger girls. There were two flats on the Hurley site: Hurley Flatinside of Hurley Cottage and the Student Flatacross the way from Hurley Cottage. On the school site. Was the classrooms, Mrs Hyde's office, the Withdrawal Roomsknown as the timeout rooms, the Librarywhere music, relaxation and movie time was held, Gymnasiumwhere we had karate practice every Tuesday night at 6pm with Senpai Steven and Senpai Kathy. Once a month we would head down to the Richmond Dojo to train under Sensei John and at the end of each term we would go into the Nelson Dojo for the proper training session under Shihan Andy Barber. Time Out areas were: By the Kitchen, not far from behind the Laundry and the Overnight Time Out for the out of control-naughty girls. The Councilling therapists were Rosie and Melinda. Work Experience included: Cleaning the cottages, working in the Kitchen and Laundry. Trips included: Rainbow skifield and Lake Rotoiti Lodge. When I was going to the school. There were 85 girls there. There was an adventure playground and a netball court. All the Cottages had a night staff on duty from the time lights go outat 10pm The night staff is on duty from 10pm-7am. Then the day staff come on duty from 7am-3:30pm. Then the afternoon staff come on duty from 3:30pm-10pm. If girls didn't listen. Off to time out. Or to get their own way. They would do a runner. One girl from Dunedin. Took off from the school and ended up in Dunedin. While another girl from Gore took off from the school and ended up in Balclutha. I ran away from the school once. But I didn't get very far. Only halfway to Stoke. Work Experience training was taken place at Work Bridge. So yeah. Some good times and memories of my time at the boarding school. And some were bad. Like I was in one of the withdrawal rooms on the school site. I was even dragged off to the two timeouts by the Kitchen and by the Laundry. But not once. I ever spent a night in the Overnight Time Out. So those are my experiences of being one of the girls at Salisbury School for Girls in Nelson.
I went to Salisbury and love it and my girls going there
