This day did not disappoint! Highly recommend Chris and Rubicon Valley Horse Treks. The weather really turned it on to top an already magnificent horse trek. Last rode a horse over 20 years ago and Chris was an exceptional guide tailoring the ride for all levels and really giving me a solid sense of relaxing and trusting in the horse and just enjoying the truly amazing scenery and afternoon! Loved a little look in the shed where his wife has gorgeous artwork and homemade gifts including Manuka and oatmeal soaps for sale!
In my 20-day visit to New Zealand, the horse trek with Chris was the highlight of my trip. The views are unfathomably beautiful and take one's breath away. My horse, Gem, was a pleasure to ride and made me feel quite secure despite high winds the day of my tour. I recommend this to anyone who loves horses. These are well cared for equines and Chris knows how to adjust the tour for any level. Hope to come back before too long!
Highly recommend. Stunning views and something for everyone's ability level, we were a mixed group of beginner and more experienced riders and we all enjoyed the trek to our individual ability levels which was great. Fun hill climbs and steep descents and plenty opportunities to go a little faster if you wished, but also relax and just soak in the views of mountains and native bush. Chris's horses were lovely and so talented. Will definitely be back for my 3rd time soon.
Absolutely incredible views, friendly guide, and well trained horses. We took the 3 hour trek and had an absolute blast going up and down hills, through streams and woods. Chris is a wonderful teacher and makes you feel welcome and listened to. Would recommend this to anyone who has a taste for adventure!
Family of four 2 kids, 11 - girl and 15 - boy had a fabulous ride this afternoon with Chris and horses. Gem loved eating grass and Red clearly had dreams from being a racehorse. Chris gave us just the right amount of training as we had ridden once before. The horses were exceptionally well trained. Both kids and me and my wife! felt in control right from the start. We all successfully went up and down hills and through a stream. If it got too difficult you could let the horse take control and Chris was always on hand watching the rider with the most potential challenges not always the same person btw. Challenges were horses wanting to munch not allowed, drink allowed or just distractions like cows or random urges to wait for other horses. The country you ride through is beautiful as my photos clearly show Jan 2022. It would be quite different but just as enjoyable at other times of year. In fact glaring sun would not be ideal. Our conditions look hot but there was a breeze at times 26 degrees and light cloud so no sun burn - we were wearing sunblock. Take smaller water bottles not giant 1.5lt things like us. You can carry your phone in a satchel provided or if you wear comfy jeans you can still get your phone out of your pocket like I did. We loved our outing and would recommend this to safety conscious families.
Best horse trek we have been on. Scenery is second to none . Chris is straight talking and incredibly knowledgeable so we felt safe at all times and were able to just enjoy the gorgeous horses who seem happy and well cared for. Highly recommend.
What a beautiful ride. Chris is awesome. I could trot and galop multiples times too. The views are breathe taking as it's super beautiful around there. I highly recommend you to go try this place.
What an amazing experience! Chris was an amazing guide, accommodating a group of first time riders and experienced riders alike. Do not be worried if this is your first time Chris will get you through.
We had the best afternoon and cannot recommend Chris at Rubicon Vally enough!! Diego, Gem and Shadow were our horses for the 2 hours and were so lovely and safe. Everyone felt confident and safe throughout the trek with Chris’s clear instructions as one of us was a beginner rider. Only trek I have been on that caters to a mixture of riding abilities in one trek. Allowing those who are capable to, move at a faster pace while the others remain at a walk where they are comfortable. As well as spreading out at times so you’re not in a row the whole time. The Scenery is absolutely stunning and there are plenty of opportunities for a good photo. Chris was very knowledgeable and happy to share what he knows. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back!! Highly recommended :-
You will love riding at Rubicon Horse treks, whether you are an experienced rider or a complete beginner. Chris really looks after you from the start with a great safety briefing right through to giving clear instructions during the ride. All of the horses are great and well looked after. The views are amazing, you get to ride through paddocks, see sheep, mountain views and cross creeks but most of all you will have an amazing ride and want to come again. If you are from overseas or from New Zealand make sure you do this ride!
