"The Museum doors may be closed however we're offering free outside the walls tours that take in the stunning and historic Government Gardens.Rotorua Museum is fortunate to be housed in an area rich in history, and following the closure of the Bath House building in November 2016 for seismic strengthening, Rotorua Museum is offering free ‘outside the walls’ guided tours around Government Gardens.Take in the Museum grounds, learn some of the interesting history of battles, buildings and the Government Gardens which were transformed from a wilderness of scrub, hot pools and geysers into an oasis of Victorian charm.Participants are advised to bring good walking shoes and clothing suitable for the weather."

I used to have great memory inside way before google starts doing reviews. The interior was marvellous. However can’t go in at the moment and repair works will take forever! 9 years in the plan and I think it will likely to reopen sometime in 2030…… a whole generation is gone
Great place for a morning and evening walk! This is one the best free and beautiful place to visit while visiting Rotorua. The whole building is fantastic, the garden around it are one the best. The city spent a lot money and time taking care of it. It’s a great a place for a morning / evening walk when you want to enjoy the quietness and beauty of the city! You could also see the lake view there, just drive a bit more.
Although museum is not currently ipen, we were still treated to a tour of the area by Ann-Elise Miles. She was amazing. Very informative and was able to show us things we had no idea existed
Magnificent building structure surrounded by tulips and assorted flowers via government gardens. Best time to visit is late afternoon or early in the morning to avoid the other people crowding the place.. September to october visit was awesome to witness the tulip bloom in the gardens..
Gorgeous building and grounds. Gift shop in foyer. Rose garden just outside to the north. Kids playground beyond that. Nice grounds for kids to play in..
A very beautiful place in rotorua. The architecture of the museum at government gardens is simple yet beautiful European or British style. We didn't visit the museum from inside. But we did spend lots of time in the beautiful government gardens surrounding it. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. There is a special section for roses. There are washrooms for the convenience of the tourists. Ideal location to have lots of snaps taken. A must visit in rotorua, really beautiful.
A very nice place to visit. We were here in 2007, an informative museum with a lot of history. is special. i loved it. The Rotorua Museum Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa is a local museum and art gallery located in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. The museum is housed in the old Bath House building which was opened in 1908 and is listed as the first major investment in the New Zealand tourism industry by the government. The museum is currently closed as of November 18, 2016 due not meeting stringent NZ earthquake standards and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Rotorua Museum opened in the south wing of the Bath House in 1969; Rotorua Art Gallery opened in the north wing in 1977. In 1988, the museum and gallery combined to form the Rotorua Museum of Art and History
I went with my daughter to test out her new iPhone and captured these hauntingly beautiful photos, we also managed to catch a “live” photo of an orb that becomes an apparition, a bit of unexpected paranormal activity to add to the experience. Loved it.
By the time we were there, the museum was closed due to earthquake risks. However the building is beautiful, what a shame that we couldn’t get in and enjoy the historic place.
Beautiful park with colorful flowers, reflecting pool and the historical museum building.
