The Civic Theatre is located within the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre in the heart of Rotorua’s downtown city centre.

The Civic Theatre is located within the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre in the heart of Rotorua’s downtown city centre.
It has modern and comfortable tiered seating for 686 people with full sound and lighting facilities.

Back stage has been recently refurbished being renovated allowing additional back stage facilities including three levels of changing rooms to accommodate both the star and the chorus lines. This puts the venue on a par with any of New Zealand’s leading theatres in other city centres.

Pre-show and intermission refreshments can be provided in the foyer areas of the wider Performing Arts Centre

I had the opportunity to witness a very capable crew in Phantom of the Opera tonight. I was unfortunately in one of the new seats, which seemed to lean forward slightly. The width of the Convention seats does seem markedly narrower, which, with the reduced comfort levels made for a noted discomfort. It was obviously not just me, as people were standing around the auditorium at the half time break. I have included pictures as a warning for others. The previous seats were superior in width and comfort. bas of new seats quite short too.
Great atmosphere absolutely awesome staff. The show we went to see Phantom of the Opera was brilliant' fantastic cast and crew. Only issue seats were a little hard but tolerable.
Absolutely amazing, beautiful place. The upstairs seats in the theatre all have incredible views of the stage. Absolutely fantastic facility. I have visited twice since the reopening and both times been so happy. Also those wondering who may have attended the opening gala, the sound system had absolutely no glitches today at all during the ANZAC service. This facility is great! Accessible to all also.

Great theater,the council have really honored Howard Morrison with this great renovation of the old civic theater. Great place for a small concert or theater act. Great view of stage from upstairs.

Im not a local so using GPS to find this venue. We drove passed it a couply times, why we missed it!! Because the name of the centre was not as visible as one would expect being an Icon to Rotorua and a well known entertainer as the Centre is Sir Howard Morrison... The first 4 rows are level ground so that was a downer for me, so when we purchased our tickets we thought yay up the front....no yay.
Lovely venue for this city. Parking is a touch lacking.
I attend the 2nd night opening which unfortunately was canceled very disappointing. I wish them well in sorting out problems, sure things will come right. Rotorua is really looking forward to a good entertainment center.
