Riverlea Theatre has been a community theatre in Hamilton for over 25 yrs. We are independently owned and operated, with plans to upgrade our building soon

Story

Riverlea is proud to be a truly local and independent theatre. Over 3500 people use our venue each year - mostly locally produced and cast productions but also some touring and international performances. We also provide a theatre school on site, 'Stagecraft', in partnership with Trust Waikato. Every afternoon of the week during term time there are students of all ages on site learning a range of theatrical skills, culminating in a performance around September each year.

Our two resident societies, who are based at Riverlea, produce regular musical theatre (Musikmakers Hamilton Inc) and plays ranging from light comedy to thought-provoking dramas and everything in between (Playbox Repertory). Other regular users include the Scouts for their Gang Shows and the Hamilton Competitions Society for their annual events.

We also operate a costume hire service by appointment, and the on-site caterers are able to cater for events both on-site and off-site.

We also have a wardrobe hire service and are proud to offer a wide range of costumes for hire to the public at very reasonable prices.
