Disappointing service for a Mother's Day brunch. I had to go hunting for someone to finally take our orders, only to be met with sarcasm. Also, your food cabinet view was completely obscured from outer condensation - please ask your staff to wipe it with a cloth or at least advise customers about the contents. And if we can hear them swearing at the counter from our far table, other customers can too. It's in a beautiful location next to the separately owned Morris and James Pottery. Fun outdoor area for kids. Please know that the food is really delicious; the menu's been lovingly crafted and well thought out. Excellent coffee. Plus it was cool watching the diligent, hardworking baker go about his craft. He sure demonstrated Ringawera hot hands that morning. I really hope the owners can coach their young staff about mindful customer service because it has all the makings to be one of Matakana's absolute best cafes. Customer service is a big value for me, hence my low review. Happy to come back soon and hopefully increase my rating.
Note Brick & Vines at Morris and James is in the process of renaming itself to Ringawera Cafe - apparently the previous operators of the Waiheke Is cafe Paddy Griffiths has moved to here. One hopes they were not operating this cafe over December and January because when we visited the service was disgusting. No welcoming greeting or prompt delivery of food - staff were confused with pricing and exceptionally rude. Items in the cabinet were not even what they were being advertised as bacon being passed off as prosciutto. We visit Morris and James regularly and the cafe was previously lovely but after this experience we a dubious to try them again - especially when Matakana has such a great choice of cafe....you can drive a few minutes and dine somewhere else. Waiheke is a different ball park - to play here you need to always be on your top game.
Located within the Morris n James Pottery Complex. Business is currently for sale. Very popular on weekends. Parking great. Food good but pricey. Toilets clean.
I can see why you have to pay upfront! We went for lunch attracted by the open fire and the promise of a cosy atmosphere with hearty country food. How wrong we were...Seafood chowder and garlic bread. $16-00 A bowl of gluggy, floury, tasteless muck probably the worst seafood chowder I have ever had . My partner had homemade Country Pumpkin soup $12-00 which was cold, sickly sweet and had store bought sweet chilli sauce squeezed on top...when asked if a bowl of soup could be had without sweet chilli sauce, the waitress replied "No it would take to long to prepare" OMG Fire place had one smokey log billowing a constant plume into the dining space making the whole experience one we would rather forget... Don't waste your time or money on the food, the pottery is lovely though
Cozy, warm atmosphere with excellent tomato soup. Too expensive for what it is, but if you are there for the pottery and need a bite to eat, it hits the spot.
Finally new owners making great food and coffee- just the boost it required. Good luck!
Dont go there when its busy for lunch, sometimes is a 50min wait, but its nice there, go to another cafe down the road or eat before,
The best place where for lunch or coffee in Matakana village. Very peaceful and pleasant atmosphere.
Great place to grab a bite with the kids. Fantastic town.
