I was expecting great flavors from the seafood sizzler because I love a lot of different seafood and due to the area we were in. It ended up being pretty bland. All of the flavors ran into each other and it ended up just tasting of boiled fish. I did appreciate they had a finger bowl automatically with this plate. The portions were good sized. I was a little annoyed with our service, as our server pushed a small plate into me to get it across the table instead of just setting it next to me. At that point, there was plenty of room on the table for it to go elsewhere. This type of behavior was noted throughout the meal, although not as prominently, where he consistently seemed to want items in a specific place on the table and would bump into us to achieve that goal.
This is the first time I've eaten here and it is a place I'd recommend to both family and friends as well as anyone reading this. You have the choice of eating inside or outside. The outside area is looking out on the river. The food was delicious and great value for money. The service and staff were great as well as very accommodating.
On ANZAC day I went to Raupo Cafe as a treat. As an out of town visitor I had been there before and had great food and great service. What a total disappointment this experience was.nnI didn’t have a reservation, so was seated at the ‘last stop before the loos’ table even though there were only about 55% of the tables filled throughout my time there.nnAfter disclosing that he had a sore throat not a great start from the service person I ordered a coffee and the bruschetta.nnThe coffee was good but the bruschetta was dreadful. The beetroot hummus lacked flavor and was so runny it had soaked right into the bread, leaving it soggy. The mushroom was a bland sludge with no discernible texture or flavor and the classic tomato appeared to have come from a jar, and had a thin cornflour ? mixture tossed through it. All three versions were just awful.nnThis cafe has the best location in Blenheim. Such a pity that in a great food and wine region what could have been a good food and cafe experience was the polar opposite.
We had a booking for 34 to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday and received an exceptional experience from start to finish. The weather was awful to say the least, but inside the restaurant we were treated to a memorable evening with good food, great service and company. The manager was most obliging and ensured our every need was met, if not exceeded, from the moment the first guest entered the doors. Our thanks and gratitude to the staff. We would certainly recommend Raupo for a large event and will be back.
We love their food and people. We are always made to feel welcome there and their food has been consistently delicious.nWe like their loaded wedges seen in the photo, and they make a really nice ice coffee too.
