An amazing experience to do in the Bay of Islands! The boat is spacious and the group size was kept small to make it an enjoyable cruise for all aboard. Snacks and a light lunch were included in our 5 hour trip, as well as time to explore Robertson Island by foot, a harnessed climb up the masts of the boat, and a refreshing swim with the option to swing yourself off the boat. The crew was fantastic. They were fun, and very attentive, while allowing us to help with tasks on the boat. The best part is that your booking and bar purchases on the boat contribute to their youth program. After a cloudy Waitangi Day at the Treaty Grounds, this was the coolest experience we could have booked. The weather was fantastic and we all enjoyed the cruise, the swims, the food and the amazing crew that catered to everyone's needs. 100% recommended!!
We had a great day sail out of Russell this week. Great ship, great crew and a super day. Everyone had the opportunity to swing off the ship into the Ocean and to climb the rigging too for a spectacular view. The boat anchored and we all had the opportunity to go ashore and hike to the top of the island. Whilst at anchor they served a great lunch and beer and wine was available too at very reasonable prices. Don’t even hesitate to take this day sail, you will love the experience.
Great cause and experience. We had a very windy evening for our voyage. We chose this boat because of the history and character. The team allowed guests to be interactive with putting up the sails and climbing the rigs. Alternatively, you could just relax if you preferred. For us , it was about being on the boat and the choppy weather didn't detract from that. Highly recommend
A day out on the water in the best possible way. Absolutely brilliant and I couldn't say enough good things about the boat, the crew and the beautiful scenery. Topped off with a stop at one of the many islands in the bay and a hike up the hill to the WWII era bunkers and the gorgeous views. You even get a nice lunch to which we added a bottle of wine. Amazing value for money and it's nice to know that the income earned by the trust is used for youth training and boat maintenance rather than disappearing into some faceless monolith that spends 90 percent of income on administration. Well done to Captain Tim and this amazing trust.
absolutely fantastic day out. crew were kind, friendly and informative and gave everyone willing the opportunity to climb the rigging, help set the sails, climb out the front of the ship. we sailed off from russel for about 2.5-3 hours until we neared the island we were stopping off at. once the boat was anchored everyone that wanted to headed ashore for a swim and a walk around the island. the island itself was stunning, with super clear calm waters and plenty to do. after 40 minutes we were taken back to the boat for a bbq lunch. crew were very careful about allergies and dietary requirements which was fantastic. you were also given the opportunity to purchase a drink from the chilly bin, such as a bottle of wine or a soft drink after lunch we were given the option to swing off the boat into the water, which was super fun. then we headed back to russel. on the way back, we encountered a bit of a shower, but the crew were quick to offer rainproof jackets to those who needed them, or you could duck downstairs to wait out the rain. towards the end of the trip, we were gently offered a bucket of souvineers, such as stubby holders, t-shirts, mugs and many many more overall this day experience was phenomenal and amazing, would highly highly recommend to anyone of any age group, and i would go again in a heartbeat additionally, any proceeds made from both the trip itself, the drinks and the souvineers go towards boat upkeep and youth trips aboard the r. tucker thompson thank you so much to the wonderful crew of the r. tucker thompson for an incredibly memorable trip
What a great day. The kids 5y&4y and parents loved it. The crew is very nice with the kids, taught them knots. Food & drinks were great.
This is a rare opportunity to sail aboard an actual "tall ship." We had a great day sail; evening sails are also available. The crew were very professional and helpful, also very safety-conscious. Guests who wanted to could try climbing the rigging, hauling sail, and steering the boat. Our tour included young couples, older folks, families with kids, and some of these with grandparents as well. The food was surprisingly good! I loved that by joining the trip we are also supporting the not-for-profit foundation that takes youth out sailing in the off-season.
My husband and I were debating whether to do the day sail with the R Tucker Thompson due to the price and our limited budget. I think doing so was the best decision we have made on this trip. The staff was incredibly friendly and made the day unforgettable. Everyone had the option of simply relaxing on deck and enjoying the delicious tea and lunch. Or, for those who were more adventurous, we had the opportunity to help hoist the sails, climb the rigging, and jump off the rope swing into the ocean at the lunch stop! It was an absolutely amazing day! I would be quite happy coming back another day and volunteering just to get another experience on this incredible boat.
This is a great experience I really enjoy the great hospitality and amazing cruise. We sailed through the picturesque bay of islands with heaps of fun and adventures activities on board for all ages. The lunch was great and the island stop perfect. On our way in to the harbour we decided to sail for a bit then gave the helm back to Captain Sam. We then opted for a nice glass of red to enjoy the last part of our journey. This is a great option to do in the bay of islands.
