Had a lovely wander through the zoo. Hens and cocktails following, saw the albino rabbit, various monkey's. The lions having a nap in the warm sun and on to the goats who were lovely. Gave them some feed. Ostriches looked happy. We moved on to the donkey's and Emus .. such characters, especially the emus who love stealing the feed. Took loads of photos. An enjoyable Saturday morning.
One of the saddest and most tragic places I've ever been. Depressed animals being driven insane in small and dirty enclosures, completely deprived of their natural freedoms. Pouakai Zoo needs to be shut down and the animals released to sanctuaries where they can receive proper care.
It’s not a big zoo but very well maintained by lovely owner. Kids love feeding ducks and alpacas, and talking to chatty parrots. :
Loved the zoo beautiful animals & birds Feeding the meerkats was special they are so cute and adorable and friendly, Friendly staff My partner enjoyed the experience too Hoping one day they will have an adoption service would love to help contribute! Seb and sasha we will come back to see you & hopefully be able to feed you!:
Fantastic day. I took my family to the zoo today. What a wonderful day. The petting animals were so friendly. Adam's talk on the lions was awesome and very informative. The star of the show was Alana the gibbon. My son is still "singing" like her now she was absolutely gorgeous and made a lasting impression on the whole family. Thank you Pouakai zoo.
I feel so so sorry for these poor animals… it’s horribly filthy, nothing for the poor animals to do in their tiny enclosures . Most animals have no trees or toys . There is no cafe no playground, bush walk was closed . Nothing to do but look at the poor suffering animals. Waited In the cold for the lions feeding , only to be waiting longer as lions were feed late . They were given Only 3 small bits of meat each …
Kids loved feeding the animals. There was a great assortment of different types of animal. The gibbon was my favorite and it did a loud whooping call. Lions and tigers are very close so you can see them closer than any zoo I've been to.
Good place to go with little ones. The feeding session for the lion is awesome. Just check the feeding time as it varies you can check their FB page for the time. You can feed some of the other animals too buy the feed from them, reasonable price. All and all it was a good place to spent with families and friends.
Got there a little after opening and it appeared to be shut. Rang them and they immediately came and opened for us. Really good prices in my opinion, and staff was so so lovely. Definitely worth getting a cup to feed the animals as they are so friendly and let us give them pats unlike ones at other places I've been. You can tell the animals are really well cared for. Went on a rainy day and we were the only ones there which was really cool. Definitely going to come back with family and the kids. So worth it.
Had a good experience overall. Nice day for it. Very close and often touchable exhibits. Seems a little erm, rustic? Older? Kinda adds to its charm. Can just wander around the place and interact with the animals generally. Obviously not a petting zoo of Tigers and Lions. But was the closest I have ever physically gotten to a big cat. Wasn't uber exciting but enjoyed hanging out there and the overall "back in the day" kinda vibe. Recommend taking a picnic.White tiger was a treat.
