PilatesPlus is a boutique studio in Strandon, offering inspiring mat classes as well as focused one on one sessions for a diverse range of clients.

Story

PilatesPlus was established in 2010 by Tracy Abel (Monk).

Tracy had been working in the fitness industry and more recently in local gyms as a group fitness instructor for several years and saw the need for a more intimate experience. It was a privilege for Tracy to have the opportunity to work with Sarah Collins using the Stotts Pilates method to extend and refine her knowledge of pilates as a form of exercise. Tracy has established a unique series of classes to focus on the needs of a diverse population of clients and the philosophy of the studio is to ensure that each client is seen as an individual and their unique needs met. Learning is best done in a fun atmosphere so there is often laughter drowning out the gentle background music! Each class has a specific focus so gains are able to be both tracked and monitored. Sarah Whitworth completes the teaching team and Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge into her classes as well as a sense of fun.

Small personal classes have been so good for my confidence in joining a Pilates class.. Limitations from injury or chronic conditions have been well supported by Tracy. The knowledge and experience she has is so reassuring. I haven't been sore or stiff, but know I've worked hard. My flexibility and core strength has improved markedly. The relaxation at the end is heavenly. A very professional but fun studio to belong to. Highly recommend.
I love my classes with Tracy at Pilates Plus. The effort she puts into designing her classes to make them varied and interesting reflects her obvious passion and enthusiasm . She is keenly observant during class, helping with posture or position when necessary to get maximum benefit and outcome. This alongside her lively sense of humour makes each class enjoyable and fulfilling. Since joining Pilates Plus I have increased strength and flexibility in all areas of my body. After class I feel relaxed and well both mentally and physically. It really is one of the best decisions I have ever made for my health and wellness.
I have been attending PilatesPlus for 2 months. The classes are enjoyable and Tracy has extensive knowledge. I began attending to iron out a few injuries mainly in my back. Each week Tracy has well planned out sessions , where we use varying apparatus. Each exercise is explained and Tracy in a supportive way makes you really work to gain benefits. I would recommend attending a one on one session as this will set you up for further progress. I Look forward to my Wednesday evenings - I always leave feeling strengthened and refreshed. As a surfer I have noticed that my surfing has improved as I am noticing better core strength .
I joined the Pilates Plus studio shortly after I arrived in NZ almost three years ago. At my age, early 80’s, it is important for me to stay flexible and to build strength and stamina. I came from a Pilates Reformer background in the US and was not sure that MAT work would give me the workout I needed. Boy was I wrong! Tracy is a master teacher. She is professional, knowledgeable about the human body and varying muscle groups, and she loves what she does, and it shows. Our classes are structured, varied and perfectly balanced, and they’re always fun. She is a natural teacher and demonstrates not only what and how to do the exercises but explains their importance. My classes have given me the flexibility and strength I wanted, but also, twice a week, the happy comradery of new Pilates friends. I couldn’t be happier with this studio.
I began my Pilates journey about two years ago and what a life-changing experience it's been. I can only thank PilatesPlus Boutique Studio for this. Tracy and her instructors are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, supportive and make every class fun and different. I've never been more in tune with my mind and body since joining. I've gained significant overall strength, especially in the core, and my flexibility has improved which helps make me feel great every day. Their ability to allow 'flex' classes ensures you can make up any sessions that you may have missed, while still keeping each class intimate. I enjoy the range of options that you are exposed to such as yoga, tai-chi, mat, barre and a range of Pilates equipment, which helps target different areas of your body that I never even knew you could control. Since joining I've never looked back, and look forward to my class every week.
I have been attending Pilates sessions for a number of years at PilatesPlus. During this time, my flexibility and overall associated strength has improved, and I have a better body balance and posture. Another significant plus is the understanding of, and the importance of ones breathing. Tracy and instructors are very professional, but also work in a relaxed way, in a very welcoming and comfortable studio/environment, delivering a variety of exercises. I can certainly recommend the PilatesPlus studio for sessions.
I started going to Pilates with Tracy due to a dodgy back, very rarely have trouble anymore. Pilates is extremely beneficial to all parts of the body and Tracy has a great way of explaining and showing how to do the exercises. Love the flexibility she has with class days and times. All in all she is the best
I have been going to pilates classes with Tracy twice a week for almost 8 years now. Tracy is a real professional both in her work ethics and attitude, and people management. Classes are always conducted in both a professional and a fun way, making what can be thought of as having to make a real effort, into a rewarding way to spend an hour. There is a serious side to all of this though, and that is that you are there for, to work as hard as you can to give your whole body a thorough workout so that at the end of it, you will feel the benefit of a refreshed body as well as mindset. It is up to each individual but believe me, at the end of it you are there for your own benefit, so there's no pint in mucking around - you aren't allowed to anyway!! Tracy doesn't miss anything amongst the group she is taking, helping and correcting you if required, and at the end of it all, it is up to the individual to get out of it what you can. You are always encouraged to work to your own ability, but also to work a little harder each time to achieve a good end result. Tracy's knowledge of the human body is second to none. If you have any aches or pains, she will always work with you to get the most out of your workout, and ultimately lead to a resolution. I am in the 'older' age range of women in the class, but thoroughly enjoy my twice weekly workouts. I always feel the benefit after class, even though sometimes it does seem like hard work at the time. There are several men who also go to Tracy's classes, and their feelings run parallel with mine. No time like the present! Contact Tracy, go along and talk it through with her. You will not have any regrets!! Good luck ENJOY!!
Tracy's class sizes ensure individual attention; she is professional yet warm and upbeat in her approach. Body strength is improving without muscular strain. An hour in my week where I always leave the class feeling wonderful.
I have learnt so much with Tracy. She is a fantastic teacher and very knowledgeble. The classes are very relaxed and enjoyable. Through pilates I have learnt to listen to my body and understand how slow controlled movements are so beneficial especially as sit at a desk majority of the day with my job. It helps to keep my spine flexible. At the end of the session the relaxing time is perfect teaches you to slow your mind down and appreciate how hard your body has worked. I have been going to Pilates for over 10 years now and definatly feel the benefits.
