Pig & Whistle, Historic Pub

My bestie and I came here for a late lunch. There's ample seating and the staff are friendly. They have a comprehensive drinks list, but I was craving non-alcoholic ginger beer. We started off with garlic toast to share, and it was delicious! Super crispy crust with soft buttery centers, and the bread was nice and light. My friend is vegetarian, thus ordered the vegan chicken bun which she loved. I ordered the lamb shank over mashed potatoes which was cooked to perfection; fall-off the bone, tender, flavorful and so good. The mashed potatoes and peas were a great pairing with the dark gravy. The lamb shank also had plenty of marrow which was an extra treat. Highly recommend!nnEdit: we also came back 2 days later for a very late dinner. Full kitchen service had closed since we came in so late, but they still had small plates/bar snacks which were just as good. The curly fries was crispy and seasoned perfectly. The skewers were really flavorful too!

We foolishly decided to order our meal to go- as we were very tired from a day of exploring Rotorua. Our meal was delicious. The Lamb burger fell apart in my mouth. The pork belly was a large portion enough for at least two people. You could eat the pork belly with your fork it was so tender. We ordered beers while waiting on our food to go and were sad we chose that life. The staff were kind and courteous, and the atmosphere was lively. We liked this place more than any place on Eat Streat. Skip the hype of the tourist trap and go straight to Pig & Whistle for a fun experience with amazing food and drinks!

We had a fantastic time at the Pig and Whistle! The food was great and all the portions were huge! I had the brisket loaded fries, and they were delish. Great value for money. The atmosphere inside was nice too, a tiny bit loud, but that's to be expected for a busy pub. The staff were friendly and helpful too. I would definitely come back.
