Paul Macandrew is a Wanaka based fly fishing guide, who offers guided sight fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout in some of the most pristine rivers, streams and still waters found in New Zealand.

Paul will customise your fly fishing adventure to suit your experience, from a keen
beginner needing attentive tuition, to the advanced angler exploring the back country wilderness. Be it a half day, full day or multi day adventure, Paul will ensure you will experience the best of Wanaka’s trout fishing and come away as addicted as he is to trout fishing.

Booked Paul for 3 full days of fly fishing in mid December and had a fantastic experience! Even though NZ was having the worst flooding in over 25 years, Paul was determined to find us a clear river within driving distance from Queenstown and I couldn't be more thankful for his efforts as many other guides in the area were cancelling trips due to the weather conditions. Paul was incredibly knowledgeable of the region even 3 hrs away from Queenstown. When planning the trip, I was considering only hiring a guide for a day and then fishing on my own for the remaining days - I'm sure glad I decided against that plan as there were so many nuances and river etiquette in NZ that I would have violated without a guide. Beyond that, Paul has many years of experience and knew exactly where to find and look for the fish and I caught far more fish than I ever would have on my own. Paul is incredibly friendly and a delight to chat with. Even at pick-up it felt as though I was fishing with an old friend back home with his laid back demeanor and thoughtful conversations. I highly recommend Paul as your guide for fly-fishing in New Zealand. I will definitely be hiring him for our next trip to NZ! Thanks so much for the trip of a life time Paul!!!
