Had a fabulous time joining the morning sea kayak tour. They communicated well with us on rescheduling due to bas weather. And on the day our guide Ben and Maddie was super patience with us and we were blessed to see dolphins, seals and the penguin eggs. Our party of 6 had a wonderful time.
Once in a lifetime experience I flew here just for this tour took a 75 min uber from Christchurch because it’s truly priceless! You can tell how much they care about these penguins & the conservation of this beautiful untouched terrain. Seeing the smallest penguins in the world thriving over a stunning sunset & hearing so many interesting facts about the history of this city was fascinating. I really enjoyed meeting & feeding the farm animals especially my first black sheep! Highly recommend this tour & also hiring a private car from Christchurch or staying in town because it’s difficult to get the uber back.
What an amazing experience! April isn’t the best month to see penguins but we still saw several “rafts” of them in the bay and saw a pair up close at the farm. Our guide also stopped at a few high peaks for the best views of the entire area and shared interesting facts about the farm, preserve, penguins, and their mission to protect them. We are already making a list of things we want to do if/when we can come back to NZ and this is at the top!
We had an unforgettable time staying here and highly recommend you do the 24 hour stay as well. Becky, our guide, was quite knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed the hike into the property. The scenery was picturesque. The property is surrounded by wildlife, so you get a very close and personal experience. The sea kayaking guides, Ben and Kevin, were funny and made us feel very safe. All the facilities were quite clean and the accommodation was comfortable. Watch out for penguins at night however because they are nesting all over the property even under the bathroom floorboards!
I can't say enough good things about Tayla and the tour we took! She was gracious and knowledgeable. The fact that we were able to see a Little Blue Penguin was truly magical. Knowing that the money that you pay for the tour goes directly toward Penguin conservation feels amazing. It was a special day!
