Otonga School Support Group

About

There is an active Parent Support group that encourages parental involvement in school. There are many ways to be involved.

Story

Ever wondered what the Otonga School Support Group (PTA) actually does?

The OSSG was set up to support the school with fundraising. Our aim is to raise money to help the school to provide extra resources for our children.

We generally do this by hosting events throughout the year. Some of the events we run are:

Summer Gala
School Discos
Sausage Sizzles
Artwork Calendars
Selling Chocolate

Some of the items we have funded recently are:

Sunscreen in every classroom
New readers for Year 1 classes
Wet weather games and resources for every classroom
Identification signs for native trees
Skipping Ropes
Jump Jam DVDs
Memento Pen for every Senior leaving the school

In order to continue our fundraising efforts, we rely on volunteers. We would also like to extend an open invitation to all Otonga parents and caregivers to get in touch, find out more, maybe join us at a meeting or see how you could help out with the Summer Gala.

We meet at 7pm in the staffroom (beside the office) on the first Monday of the month, meetings usually go for about an hour and are very informal. Our meetings are a great way to meet people if you are new to the area or just want to keep up to date with what is happening throughout the school. If you can't make the meetings, there are plenty of other ways to get involved. If you would like to find out more please get in touch.

I am going to be honest as possible here without leaking any information of mine. So, I went to this school a little while ago, And I did not like it in any shape or form. It is a terrible school and should be closed down as quickly as possible. I have many memories of this school in which are terrible. I don't even got 1 memory of something amazing happening. I got bullied, Picked on every day from students and TEACHERS. I even got mugged by a teacher in the after school program WITHIN THE SCHOOL ITSELF. My bike was stolen, My bag was stolen, My CHROMEBOOKS WAS ALSO STOLEN AND TRASHED BECAUSE THE TEACHERS WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. All the teachers that go to that school right now, are terrible and abusive. There was a few that were kind, But the rest were terrible. Please, Save your children and go to Westbrook or something. Do not go to Otonga, at all. As a white person, I founded the "tough" schools in Rotorua good. Including Rotorua Intermediate, Rotorua Boy's High' School, WestBrook, Western Heights, Etc. If I could give a 0/10, I WOULD. I still have a lot of PTSD nowadays because of that terrible school.
This is the school that gave me trauma. There were only 6 mapri students out of the whole school. Yes they were proud to say theres 6 invluding me now. It was very racist school. But i did maje friends..they stood up for me from my teachers. That would be the only great time was having feiends who protected me no matter what race i was.
It used to be the best school in town but suddenly all the good teachers left all the favourites the ones the kids loved and you have to ask why. Long service teachers leaving and going to other schools. Its been 1 after the other. And then they are replaced with teachers like Mrs K who told the children often im sick of you, im sick of this class. Really dissapointed. What happened to all the good teachers why did they leave and why are they still leaving. Makes you wonder, im unsure if my children will still attend next year i want them to thrive in a positive environment wich Tihiōtonga used to provide. Im not so sure now that they do provide this.
I went to this school for 3 years back in 2014-2017. Best three years of my life. miss yall sm <3
