Multicultural Rotorua provides an opportunity for people from all segments of our diverse society to address the challenges facing our multicultural communities in the 21st century. We respect Tangatawhenua and the Treaty of Waitangi.
Rotorua Multicultural Council Inc. (RMC, a.k.a. Multicultural Rotorua) was established in 1996.
Formerly known as Rotorua Ethnic Council Incorporated, incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on the 19th of May 1998 [Reg# 90926]
Registered as a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005 on 3o June 2008. [Reg# CC39743]
Name changed to Rotorua Multicultural Council Incorporated on the 9th of November 2009.
Our vision is Unity in Diversity.
One of our objectives is to promote and protect the interests of cultural groups/individuals in Rotorua- this objective also serves as our purpose.
Membership fee: Group $50 and Individual $10
We publish a monthly newsletter/bulletin called Multicultural Rotorua. We post this at The Library Community Bulletin Board. If you want to be in the email list, contact Susana So (our Coordinator) on 021 1593601 or email [email protected]
Our services are:
Promotion of Council member (group or individual) projects- community activity or event such as cultural festival, language week celebration, school-holiday programme, coffee mornings, Saturday market, cultural/religious gathering, potluck, sports competition, etc.
Assistance in organising activities or events for the first time; as well as designing logo and poster.
Rotorua Newcomers Network. We manage a part-time coordinator to organise activities and events for migrants and newcomers to Rotorua to help them connect with other newcomers and meet locals who are able to share their settling stories, issues and recommendations. Through the Skill Development Programme, there are opportunities for bite-size learning which is aimed at providing affordable skill/talent training class for newcomers.

Referrals to free English language class for residents through English language Partners.
Referrals to Chamber of Commerce’s Rotorua Multicultural Business Council for migrant business owner concerns. We are able to represent you in the meetings and act upon an arising matter when necessary.

2. Participation in Tree-Planting, cultural performance and food stall at Whakanuia (Waitangi Day Celebration) –in cooperation with Whakarewarewa
3. Face Painting and Cupcakes at Childrens and Family Day@The Redwoods- organised by the District Council and The Redwoods.
4. U&I Football Cup. A Race Relations Day celebration.
5. Green Walk. A St. Patrick’s Day celebration and participation at Rotorua Walking Festival during March.
6. Face Painting School Holiday Programme at Rotorua Arts Village (April)
7. Women’s Health Forum (Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme)
8. Face Painting at Youth Week Celebration at the Rotorua Youth Centre.
9. U&I Can Cook. Learn to cook Thai or French dishes at Rotorua Arts Village and other venues.
10. U&I Learn Maori. A Maori Language Week Celebration at Whakarewarewa- The Living Thermal Village.
11. U&I Games_Basketball. A social basketball tournament in cooperation with the Philippine Club of Rotorua.
12. Cupcake Day for the SPCA. A Victorian Tea Party at Glenbrae Village. Awareness and fund-raising activity.
13. U&I Love Thai. Networking dinner and cross Thai and Maori vegetable carving.
14. Bastille Day Clebration. Networking lunch and French culture awareness day.
