Students wear crocs and sweatpants to school. Girls wear heavy make up. Ive seen many girls come out of senior boys cars at 2:30pm. How do they skip school? Theres zero discipline in physical appearance as a student. Some teachers are bullies and I have heard of a teacher who touches/stares at girls. Badges drain out students extremely and kill their confidence. Alot of activities with less focus on academics. The school needs to do something about academics. The quality of teaching is extremely poor. If you read all the bad reviews on here, they are not lying. Dont send you child here.
I went to OJC for 4 years, and I hated it so much. It's not hate, but I strongly disliked it - the teaching is bad, we don't learn anything, and badges are useless, since they don't relate to year 11. They don't help prepare for NCEA, and they focus too much on badges. Some of the teachers are very biased there and they are nice to certain type of race, giving them special treatment, and they put u on service for little things like coming late to class by 1 minute because we were on the fields and didnt hear the birds go off, TAIPS are kind of useless too and they didnt cover anything about what we chose, only some certain teachers are good and reading plus and EP never helped us learned and they should have gave us some homework for like a prepareration for ncea practice. The year 10 roadtrip also kind ofsucked and its also a waste of money, the only good thing abt it were the views and thats it. They dont provide proper food and and they only had veg options for indians meaning everything else was beef. The place was dirty and the bathrooms had bugs in them, they wouldnt let us a buy our own food and finally we had to clean the insides of the toilet that has bugs and poo inside. When we tried expressing our opinion to the school they got mad - it was a waste of +$400 since we had to purchase our own food - we also had to bring cookies which the teachers said was to share with everyone - however the teachers ate them all and only gave it to the adults. We also had very late nights due to the teachers talkibg we would sleep at 1-2am and awake up at 5-6. On the last day they took our phones off us - the teachers were also very rude and they did not help clean at all despite the fact that they also used the bathrooms. OJC also skipped the co requiste practice which means the year 10s didnt get credits. Homeschool ur child
Review as someone who did year 7 and year 8 at this school and moved to another school to do year 9 and 10.nnI honestly cannot think of anything positive write. The only good thing would probably be the leadership positions, but those don’t really matter if you’re the many other students who never get put into these roles. The production the school runs isn’t half bad too.nnThere are so many negatives that I could write a 10 page essay about how useless and terrible this school is. MAC is useless. Calling teachers by their first names is ridiculous because it destroys the respect students should have. TAIP is not “progressive” or “unique” and it should be removed for mandatory useful subjects like science, social studies etc. Don’t get me started on badges too, they are no way as effective as tests and should be removed. Also the vaping problem, I’ve never heard of another school with such an issue with drugs. There were students having intercourse in the bathrooms, primary school playground, and fingered under the stairs too ‍.nnIn year 8 I was horrible, I skipped classes to vape in the bathrooms, I got into fights and talked back to teachers. Not because I was stupid though, because they never provided any advanced or accelerated classes and I was bored all the time. Primary schools have harder work. Once I moved schools I immediately excelled in an institute with an actual program, received multiple awards and put my time into community service.nnSo if you’re a year 8 or 7 stuck in this hell of a school find some way to get out of there immediately. Do not do the rest of intermediate there!!!
As a student that attended this school for 2 years for my year 7 and year 8, I can confirm this is lowkey a waste of time.nThe only good thing about attending this school was seeing your friends, like deadass. If you just wanna have a fun teenage life or whatever this school would be like ok, but if you want an education lowkey make a run for it cuz this school ain’t it.nnThe education is very questionable and so are the teachers. The teachers either can’t teach or have poor teaching skills, although there are some good teachers most teachers can’t teach properly.nThere are mixed year levels for your mandatory classes Literacy and numeracy, so it’s like 7 and 8 or like 8 and 9 or like 9 and 10, this is a very inefficient system for teaching because you’re either not learning Jack because it’s too hard for you, or you’re not learning Jack because you already know everything and it’s not your level or if you’re lucky it might be just right. Also they don’t have no science no social studies unless you choose a specific taip for it but even if you choose it, it’s like you don't learn the subject in full you just learn a part of it. Honestly just a waste of time, just add the subject. Also badge bidding is so stupid, you learn nothing from it, I don’t know why they think it’s better than actual testing. They don’t actually fact check anything when you are badge bidding, you can just make up something that your learnt, like I made up most of the stuff I learnt while I was doing badges because genuinely I didn’t learn anything. You could pass everything with bare minimum, they don’t care if you’re late you can come in anytime in the day as long as you come to school, they won’t tell your parents no nothing if you’re late, there isn’t any consequences to lateness I used to come late daily .nAlso uniforms, they don’t gaf whatever you’re wearing as long as the school uniform shirt is on, everything else is lwk freestyle. Also students here be vaping thinking they cool and all but girl u really ain’t all that, vaping in the bathrooms thinking ur gang gang but lwk it’s just second hand embarrassment.nnBeen here for 2 years, can’t say I haven’t learnt anything but I definitely haven’t learnt lots. I moved schools and learnt more in a term than I did in those 2 years and that says quite a bit.nOverall don’t send ur kids here unless u want them to be academically f up. just a waste of time and bad in general.
It's not good. The teachers here teach in the east. I have learned nothing here in four years. I can only make friends here but not learn real things. If you really want to learn something, don't come to this kind of school
