Story

Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill is a 182m volcanic peak in Auckland, New Zealand. It is an important memorial place for both Māori and other New Zealanders. The suburb around the base of the hill is also called One Tree Hill. It is surrounded by the suburbs of Royal Oak to the west, and clockwise, Epsom, Greenlane, Oranga, and Onehunga. The summit provides views across the Auckland area, and allows visitors to see both of Auckland's harbours. The hill's scoria cones were erupted from three craters – one is intact and two have been breached by lava flows that rafted away part of the side of the scoria cone. Lava flows went in all directions, many towards Onehunga, covering an area of, making it the second largest (in area covered) of the Auckland volcanic field, behind Rangitoto Island. The age of eruption is currently unknown, but it is older than 28,500 years as it has a mantling of volcanic ash erupted at that time from Te Tātua-a-Riukiuta volcano.HistoryMāori pā (fort)The Māori name Maungakiekie means "mountain of the kiekie vine". Māori also knew it as "tōtara that stands alone". The mountain and its surrounds were home to the Te Wai ō Hua tribe from the early 1700s and probably before that time. Other Māori tribes in the Auckland area can also trace their ancestry to the mountain.

Cornwall Park is such a gorgeous place to visit. Lots of different walks for people of varying fitness levels. You can even just take your time and stroll. The grounds are well kept and cared for, which is fabulous to see. The toilets, however, for the number of people that come through here, one, there aren't enough facilities, and secondly, they are so dirty that it is embarrassing. I was very disappointed. This is also a tourist spot, so where is the pride. It just makes me sad.
Unbelievably beautiful place in the middle of city. Just get there before sunrise and listen to the mesmerizing sound of bird, they wash away all the streets from mind. I attend Saturday morning running event there too at 8am. Perfect for a relaxing morning.
Cornwall Natural Park is an excellent and vast leisure park with a long history. It is one of the best spots in Auckland that every visitor really deserves to walk up all park until the hill with the obelisk.
A beautiful place to walk in the heart of Auckland. Full of history and nature. Great views of the whole city especially if you walk to the top of Maungakiekie - One Tree Hill. Plenty of places for a picnic and facilities for barbecue.
"The Cornwall Natural Park is simply spectacular! This natural haven offers an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Ideal for walking and sports activities outdoors, you immerse yourself in an environment where nature comes alive. With peaceful grazing cows, playful sheep, and majestic pheasants, each step is a unique experience. The lush trees provide shade and a serene atmosphere, perfect for recharging your energy. I recommend this place 100% for those seeking to connect with nature and rejuvenate."
Cornwall Park is one of our favourite parks in Auckland. My husband and I went to Cornwall Park on 24/8/2023. We saw lots of sheep and cow there and took some photos there. The park was very peaceful at that time so we could enjoy the peaceful and quiet atmosphere there. We highly recommend you to go there if you live near the park or happen to drive past there.
Pretty good, leaves having fallen from trees but probably not management’s fault… still a pretty place with lots of happy people chilling out, enjoying nature. Pic is from a giant tree that is about 104 years old, actually looks older, but I’m no botanist.
Really lovely park with a decent walk from the beginning by his statue. Cafe has expectable but not awful prices. Great view.
Cornwall park is just next to your door as urban oasis, you will find people in many nationalities, nature, farm-life and places to explore, best for the second time around .
